"Outstanding company and I definitely recommend MC Construction & Masonry. From the moment Mark showed up at my home to to provide a cost estimate for removing an older microwave and installing the new over the range oven, he was truly superb. He walked me through exactly what need to be done, how long it would take and provided a vey reasonable cost estimate that was what I paid. Mark was very professional, knowledgeable and he protected my range , counter tops, floors and cleaned all debris caused by the install. He even took away the old oven saving me a trip to the landfill. I was so impressed that I had him look at a few more of my future projects and yes I plan to hire him."

Stone Countertops questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can generally put hot pans directly on a granite countertop without worrying about cracking, as it is a durable, heat-resistant stone that can withstand high temperatures. However, it is still highly recommended to use a trivet or hot pad as a precaution. Prolonged or repeated exposure to high heat can potentially cause discoloration or damage the countertop's sealant, making it more susceptible to staining. Additionally, the heat from a pan can transfer to the granite, creating a burn hazard for anyone who touches the surface shortly after.

The best way to save money on countertop installation is to choose an affordable material. For example, if you have a busy kitchen and need durability, choose a more affordable but lasting material like granite countertops. Likewise, if you don't use your countertops often, you can use a softer material that costs less than more sturdy ones.

Another way to cut costs is to remove and dispose of the existing countertops yourself, if possible. That way, countertop installers can get straight to placing the new feature, reducing labor costs.

It all comes down to rarity and demand. Granite rocks with unique patterns or rare colorways like red, purple, and blue are more expensive than traditional designs. Some types of blue granite are extremely rare, like Azul Aran and Blue Bahia, driving the price up even further. The most expensive type of all is a unique design called Van Gogh granite. As the name suggests, it sort of looks like a painting.

Quartz countertops are known for their durability, but they aren’t indestructible. Quartz countertops can crack under extreme pressure, like when experiencing a heavy impact. The same can happen with regular exposure to high temperatures. Finally, improper installation makes the quartz more vulnerable.

While onyx is among the most expensive countertop stones, it’s not always the priciest. It is generally cheaper than Calacatta marble, which is highly sought-after for its rarity and bold veining. However, onyx still commands a premium price due to its unique translucency and delicate nature.
