We had to send several emails to have them get in touch with us. But it was around Thanksgiving and the owner was away. We

finally connected and Steven came to see the job. John and Matt came to see the job as well. We discussed what we wanted done and we were emailed a formal quote after several days. The concrete work was excellent. They made the sidewalk wider and with curves (transitions) to the driveway. One worker got the concrete too wet and caused several guys to be here late at night waiting for it to dry enough to put the lines in it. But it turned out well.

At first we didn't like the way they had left the grading. They did try to use some of the sod that was dug up. That was probably a waste of time (in my opinion) but my husband wanted it. It added to the cost. They could have thought a bit more about it and used the dirt that they scraped off on the one side of the driveway to fill in on the other but that didn't happened and they brought in soil. They were really not well equipped for the number of men that were here. We loaned them some shovels and rakes. There was a mechanical problem with the back loader(?) But they got that fixed. They went and bought a roller to compact the soil. I think they learned a few things on this job.

The tree and bush trimming is not their specialty. It is on their website but the guys doing it didn't do a good job and didn't have the proper tools for the bush trimming. We will have to fix them ourselves. The branches removed from the trees went well. The fellow who transplanted the small crepe myrtle did a good job.

It seemed like my husband had to be on site to do some supervising. There were several helpers that stood around, one on his phone. :-( Everyone was courteous and pleasant. We might consider them again for a roofing job we will be doing later.

I think the job took a bit longer than they thought.

"Davis Paving did an excellent job on our driveway! The driveway is quite long, more like a short road, and had many potholes and ruts. Davis Paving repaired the driveway and put down new gravel, building up areas that were in dire need. Now we have a nice smooth driveway! No more muddy potholes! As part of the contract, Davis did the same for my son’s driveway next door. He, too, is quite happy with the results! I highly recommend Davis Paving!"

"David was amazing! He contacted us 1 hour after I found your referral services. He went out of his way to pick up our items that day! We accidentally left personal items in the furniture and he immediately called us to arrange to get these items. I highly recommend his services to everyone. I have no problem being contacted in the future as a reference."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.

Overall, a paver driveway is considered the easiest to maintain because homeowners are able to do driveway repair one piece at a time without impacting the rest of the driveway. Unlike paved options, paver driveways contain individual stones that aren't physically connected. By comparison, you may need to reseal or redo a full asphalt driveway if just one portion sustains a significant crack.

This creates a risk for your driveway to fail after asphalt curing because it doesn't have a lasting bond with the surface. In order to get asphalt to perform as intended, it's necessary to prepare the dirt surface correctly first. The loose soil base under the new driveway must be compacted until it is stable enough to support the weight of the asphalt.

There’s no single best asphalt grade—it all comes down to where and how it’s used. Highways and heavy-traffic roads need something tough, like polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) or Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA). Local roads and parking lots rely on the Performance Graded (PG) system, chosen based on climate. A PG 64-28 mix, for example, handles a broad temperature range while simpler, more cost-effective mixes are typically enough for residential driveways. The best grade of asphalt depends on traffic, weather, and your budget, which is why a professional’s input is always a smart move before making a decision.

The cost to replace a driveway ranges from $8 to $15 per square foot, depending on factors that include material, size, and labor. If your driveway has deep cracks, potholes, or drainage issues (or if it’s simply past its prime), replacement might be the smarter investment over constant repairs. Resurfacing can be a cheaper alternative at $3 to $20 per square foot, but it won’t fix your driveway’s underlying problems.
