"I had a very good experience working with Walt Haines General Contractor. Walt Haines is very easy to work with on a custom plan. He is the most conscientious contractor you will find. He cares about the quality of his workmanship, and tries hard to please his customers. Thank you Walt for building my beautiful addition in a timely, professional manner. Walt Haines General Contractor is the best contractor you could hire for a quality built home, or remodel."
"Ken was great to work with. He’s very responsive and wants to make it as easy as he can for the homeowner. I do NOT like how the company does their pricing. They do not give you a set estimate for the project. They’d need to give me a fixed estimate and do change orders like a normal contractor or we would not hire them again. If they changed that we’d hire Ken again."
"Bill and Billy were very professional and efficient with the projects I had at my home. They built me and 2 car garage and deck off the back of my house. Pricing was very fair and the quality of their work was top notch. They're family owned and operated. I highly recommend them as a general contractor and builder for any home projects."
"We hired Dixie Home Improvement for kitchen cabinet refinishing & backsplash. We quickly added additional jobs including repair of front porch and siding around house for repairs needed due to water damage. The owner and crew have been nothing short of respectful and professional and conduct business with a high degree of integrity! They have earned our trust and loyalty with their exceptional workmanship! We have even added more work to their schedule with chimney repair, fireplace stone installation, door installations and bathroom remodels. We HIGHLY recommend Dixie! Communication is entirely transparent! We feel blessed to have come across them at a time when many other contractors disappointed us!"

"We moved into Providence Country Club-Charlotte in January. We bought the home knowing it needed some serious updates. Our goal was to first remodel the Master Bathroom, Paint the interior walls, and put hardwood in the Master Bathroom We had a budget in mind and did not want to go above that. So we went on Angies list to get five quotes. Some of quotes that we received were ridiculously high. Based on the fact that Chuck, owner, at Americas Home Choice was so quick to respond...as he did throughout the project. Chuck not only came in a great price but He shared with us ideas on how we can save money. WOW...Finally an honest contractor!!! I had people with bids 300% higher than Americas Home Choice. When we met Chuck we were very pleased how experienced he and his crew were. Chuck always respected our budget and our ideas. I work quite a bit but my wife stays at home during the day. Since Chuck's crew would be in and out of my house without me there, I was nervous about a crew of guys i never met and hoped my Wife felt comfortable around them. To answer, Chuck crew was the best. They were the most respectful and professional and I have ever worked with. Rick, the Floorman, was incredible and build a house from scratch. What nice guy! Davey and Tommy were super as well. Great things is Chuck doesn't use subcontractors...THEY DO IT ALL! Our Master Bathroom came out beautiful. It is amazing how they transformed it into an oasis. Our cabinets are awesome. His quality of paint work made the inside of our house look new. Chuck and his crew could not have been better. If we saw something we didn't like, Rick would be at our house to correct within a week. We are excited to do more projects in our new house! Chuck with Americas Choice Contractors will be the only on we call!!!
"Since Albert is a contractor and has the responsibility to clean up a job site...he did not complete the job as required. In turn, I paid to have the debris removed for $157 and change.....Albert needs to remimburse me for the expense I incurred as a result of his failure to remove the debris as required by being a contractor. "
"Sustainable Contractors did a fantastic job on my kitchen renovation! They were polite, punctual, professional and cleaned everything up! I am very happy with their work and would use them again and again. Thank you guys! "
Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts
When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
Duration varies by project size, but average-sized homes typically take a weeks.
Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.
Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.
Metal stud framing parts include the studs themselves, upper and lower tracks that act as top and bottom wall plates, various angle fasteners and clips, screws for fastening pieces togeher, metal straps, c-channel supports, and thicker steel supporting structures. Roof framing metal components include pre-fabricated trusses, heavy-gauge stud pieces, and various plates and fasteners.
