"We hired Gardens by Eva because we needed to update the landscaping in and around our pool and front yard. We lived all the ideas that they came up with and how the project came out. We added path lighting, pavers, and up lights on our palm trees. The property looks fresh, clean and aesthetically beautiful! Rocky and Eva care about making sure they make you happy!"

"David and his crew did an awesome job for us. They poured a slab for our 20 x 20 building and a sidewalk! We also had the building wired and they did that for us. We were ð ¯ % satisfied with the work. They were always respectful and very caring about the detail of their work. They will be our go to contractors when needed. Thank you David, Buster and crew!!! I’m Christian. I have been working in all or some fields that u have read for 35 years. Born into a family of Masons. I’m a third generation mason in my family. I specialize in hardscapes and landscaping but not limited to any type of masonry work. I have a window screen repair company currently. Moves into the area little less than a year ago. Trying to figure out what I want to do down here in North Carolina. I learned everything I know from doing and watching work side by side with my dad, uncle and my older brother. Anyway I’m available to work. Ready to take care of someone’s project large or small no matter what it is.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

The physical constraints of hand-drilling a well limit the depth you can achieve. Manually digging with picks and shovels may only lead to shallow wells of up to 60 feet in depth. To reach greater depths, you need more specialized equipment. The diameter of your well and the tools you’re using will determine how far down you can dig.

The average cost of excavation is approximately $3,200, with typical projects ranging from $500 to $15,000. Depending on the contractor, you may be charged between $50 and $200 per cubic yard or an hourly rate of $40 to $180 for an excavation specialist. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including the project size, the amount of soil to be removed, and the soil's condition. Hard soil, tree roots, or excessive rocks and clay can increase the price, potentially adding $200 to $1,200 to the final bill. Other factors that can drive up costs include the presence of nearby structures that complicate the work or tight spaces that require manual excavation instead of heavy machinery.

While general contractors sometimes handle demolition, you can also look specifically for local demolition contractors. Demolition experts need to understand structural integrity, the equipment needed for safe demolition, and the permits required for demolition.
