"Needed fencing installed to keep groundhogs from taking up residence under our deck. Brady came up with a creative and complete solution that made sure the varmints were out and would not return. Would use again."

"Mass Force Land Clearing & Timber Management did an outstanding job on my property. From the very beginning, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They handled everything from brush removal to timber management with real skill and attention to detail. They arrived on time, worked efficiently, and kept the entire area clean and organized throughout the project. The results were better than I expected. My land is cleared, leveled, and ready for the next step, all thanks to their hard work. "We had a fantastic experience working with Patrick from Christie Construction Services. Within 24hrs of submitting a request for a quote, Patrick reached out to schedule a time to come out and discuss the project. Patrick's communication and responsiveness throughout couldn't have been better. Project costs and progress were made very transparent and any questions I had were answered thoroughly. Patrick also volunteered his knowledge and expertise on additional improvements that we could do ourselves to further enhance our landscaping and drainage challenges on our property. This was very much appreciated as we live in a tough location and have a limited budget. He went above and beyond to help resolve the drainage issues we hired him to address and then some. The level of customer service can't be beat; not only does Christies know their stuff, but they are just genuinely great people! It was a pleasure working with Patrick and co., we will absolutely be hiring them again for our future landscaping and property improvement needs. Our new and improved driveway turned out great!"

I’m Christian. I have been working in all or some fields that u have read for 35 years. Born into a family of Masons. I’m a third generation mason in my family. I specialize in hardscapes and landscaping but not limited to any type of masonry work. I have a window screen repair company currently. Moves into the area little less than a year ago. Trying to figure out what I want to do down here in North Carolina. I learned everything I know from doing and watching work side by side with my dad, uncle and my older brother. Anyway I’m available to work. Ready to take care of someone’s project large or small no matter what it is.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

A trench that is less than 5 feet deep often doesn't require a protective system. Most residential trenches will not go this deep (the typical residential drainage trench is just 18 inches deep). In the event that an excavator needs to dig more than 5 feet beneath the surface, a protective system is required unless the excavation is in entirely stable rock.

Trenching is a specific kind of digging. Trenching means digging a depression in the earth that’s deeper than it is wide, often with heavy machinery. Digging refers to any kind of removal of earth in order to create a human-made depression, hole, or cut in the earth’s surface. You can dig with big tools or even with just a hand shovel.

Trenches are typically 12 to 24 inches deep and 8 inches wide. However, the required depth depends on the specific project and local ordinances. For example, a French drain may need to be 18 inches deep, while a water pipe might require a depth of 24 inches and a drainage pipe 36 inches. Your city or county may have specific regulations, so it's wise to consult with an excavation professional to determine the correct depth for your project.

Because decomposed granite is a durable material, a crushed rock or gravel base is optional as long as the DG is properly installed and compacted. However, installing a base is a good idea because it will ensure proper drainage and stability and act as a weed suppressant (although you may still occasionally have to pull weeds). Installing an adequate base can also increase the durability of driveways and walkways. If you forego the paver base or gravel underneath, line the area with landscaping fabric to avoid weeds.
