"I needed insulation put into existing walls without any remodel. They came and did blown in fiberglass from the exterior walls. They did a great job and were super friendly. Some issues came up during the job with my interior drywall because the sheetrock was installed incorrectly. They didn’t hesitate to come in and fix the problem. They cleaned up after themselves before leaving where you couldn’t even tell they were there. I noticed an immediate difference in sound and comfort in the house. I am very impressed with how friendly and professional they were. The job was quick and effective. Highly recommend."

"Top-notch professionals from beginning to end, at a surprisingly reasonable cost. I have an older home built in 1977 that had minimal attic insulation, and some of it was degraded and useless. Brian did an initial inspection and I received a summary of what needed to be done, with five different cost options. A zoom meeting with Brock clarified work elements and any questions I had. A very efficient Triangle Radiant Barrier crew installed fiberglass batts against interior walls, radiant barrier on flooring and walls, an insulation cover for the pull-down stairs, air-sealed utility penetrations, and sealed HVAC connections. Even though this work was recently done, I can already tell a positive difference. The air flow inside the house is more even (no warm/cool pockets) and I don't have to wear layers of clothing on cold nights. It's early days yet, but the insulation work should also save 10%-15% on energy costs over time. Triangle Radiant Barrier will adjust their work elements to your budget and needs, and they are 100% reliable in standing behind their work. Payment is not due until work is completed and inspected. I highly recommend them!"

"Great Customer service. I got fiber glass insulation blown into the attic. Within 3 days of signing, I had changed the contract from wall insulation to just the attic and USA Insulation was able to draft a new contract with issues."

"Initial install into garage ceiling did not work. Subsequent parts and method did seem to work well to achieve a dense pack with fiberglass blown in. A lot of holes in the drywall ceiling. Be aware, a lot of dust from drywall during install and drywall repair. Price was very fair. Pleasant vendor. This was a complicated job."

"Groundhog Insulation did a fantastic job adding and replacing insulation in my walk-up 800 sq. ft. attic. Kevin and Brian, the installers, worked hard to do the job. They covered the areas leading to the attic with drop cloths to insure that those areas were kept clean and at a price that was very competitive. I would recommend them."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

You can usually tell if you have plaster or drywall by touch (plaster is harder, colder, and smoother than drywall) or by tapping on it (drywall sounds hollow, plaster does not). If you still cannot tell, peek under an outlet cover and check the cut edges. The rough edges show the composition of the wall. You will see either drywall (two paper sheets sandwiching gypsum material) or only plaster material (no paper sheets).

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

You can take a few steps to save money on drywall installation, even when hiring a professional to do the bulk of the work for you. These ideas include the following:

  • Buy the drywall and other materials yourself to avoid product markup and delivery fees

  • Ask about discounts if you use the same company to tape, spackle, and paint

  • Hire drywall professionals in the winter when demand is the lowest

  • DIY as many parts of the project as possible, like replacing insulation and painting

The cost to skim coat drywall is $1.15 to $1.35 per square foot. Most of the cost is labor, for the necessary skills to apply the skim coat with precision using high-quality tools. This is a job better left to the professionals for the best outcomes.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.
