"I had done some self testing so was aware that work was needed. SWAT got back to me within minutes of making my selection. The appointment was within days. The technician was very clear about options of placement. I had already upgraded the fan and outside pipe. He went to work and did a neat job. The best part is that my tester indicates that radon has almost disappeared."

"While this is not my first home, I have never purchased a home that was quite as old as this 1950s Greensboro ranch. This makes me very nervous. But I was so pleased with Don's inspection of the property that I now have faith that this really is the perfect little home for me. I trust that Don gave me the most thorough review of the property possible, and his report was equally thorough as well as easy to follow along. He made sure to point out the areas that were especially concerning and the things that should be addressed before I close on the property. I hope to be in this house for quite some time, but if I ever move or my friends require inspection services (including radon!), I will be sure to recommend Don."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

You can vent radon out of your house sometimes by simply opening a window, but it won’t remove the source, and will likely rise above recommended levels quickly. A professional will be needed to assess your home, and determine the best strategy for radon removal. Active radon sump pumps and soil depressurization systems are often used to forcefully vent the radon from your home.

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to remediate radon yourself. While a radon reduction professional can make the biggest impact in your home, you can make efforts to improve radon levels on your own by sealing cracks, increasing ventilation, and testing for radon regularly.

Mitigation can take several days depending on home setup, equipment accessibility, and achieving effective diffusion system sealed efficiency.

Options include sub-slab depressurization, crawlspace ventilation, and sealing cracks. Choose based on home construction and radon levels.
