The first step to clearing the air in a line is to locate the cause. This is usually a blockage in either the drain or the venting system. Once you clear the issue, flush the system by actually flushing the toilets repeatedly. This should allow the trapped air to escape, thus clearing the lines. Sometimes, you may be able to feel the moisture with direct touch. Also, if your basement smells musty or moldy, you might have an underground water leak that’s causing mold to form.
You shouldn’t shower while a sump pump isn’t working. Although household wastewater isn’t supposed to go into the sump pit, it’s best to wait to shower until your sump pump is running properly and able to move excess water out of the basement. If you need to shower when the sump pump isn’t working, aim for a short shower.

In most cases, you can access one side of the hose from below your sink, as it usually ties into the same drainline that your sink uses. Occasionally spray your shut-off valve with WD-40 to stall it from rusting. If it really gets stuck, a wrench and WD-40 will usually do the trick, but you will need to call a plumber if it’s completely unmovable.
