Installed the bathroom vanity today, and discovered that the stone wasn't even cut square. There's a 1/4" side-to-side difference in both length and width, so it's a parallelogram instead of a rectangle shape. Looks like crap because it doesn't align with the backsplash. Thanks losers, for not even measuring the material before taking our money.
ORIGINAL REVIEW 7/14/2015: We hired Distinctive to install quartz countertops on cabinets purchased elsewhere, and it turned into the most dishonest, horrifying customer experience we've ever had.
The central issue was trying to install a 30" undermount sink over a 33" base cabinet. The company's representative assured me that they "did it all the time" with a little modification to the cabinet sides, which we did prior to installation. The installers tried to mount the sink with Cinclips, which are 1" thick, into a 5/8" space. The clips obviously couldn't reach the rim, so they compressed the sides of the sink instead. This caused a 6" crack in the sink, which we discovered the first time water was put in it.
Initially, we weren't aware of the improper installation, thinking it might have been damaged in shipping & handling, or defective, and ordered a new sink. I informed Distinctive about the crack (no accusations were made) and was told they'd charge $70/hr to reinstall a new sink. No one offered to come out and look at the installation, or to help us in any way. We chose to do the work ourselves.
While installing the new sink, we discovered the improper installation and re-did it with homemade supports. We were fed up from the time, trouble, and money Distinctive had cost us by that point, and had no interest in having them in our home again.
I emailed the sales rep and the business owner our customer experience feedback, in the form of a detailed list of the things that went wrong with our project, including the botched sink install. I didn't demand any compensation, ask any questions, or expect a reply; I did hold out hope that the owner would swoop in and do the right thing. The unsolicited followup from the sales rep was dismissive, condescending, unapologetic, and failed to even mention the sink installation.
Since they chose to make matters worse by being evasive and unpleasant, I emailed the owner directly. I asked only for the cost of the sink -- literally the least they could do for us -- and said that I'd be willing to go to small claims to seek full damages if she didn't respond by the end of 3 business days.
The owner made no effort to contact either me or my spouse to discuss the situation personally -- and never has, to this day. She did take the time, however, to have her sales rep call contractors at random -- without our knowledge or permission -- to find one who had done business with us 2 years ago, and asked about their relationship with us. That's a sleazy, possibly illegal, invasion of privacy just to find out that we are, in fact, honest and easy to work with.
The owner replied, 15 minutes before the 5pm close of the 3-day window, to say she'd give us the cost of the sink, but she also demanded that I take down my unfavorable reviews because they were "slanderous ( sic)" against her and her employees. She still didn't broach the installation issue, nor did she apologize for the time and trouble her company caused us. I told her that we wouldn't accept compensation without an acceptance of responsibility, because we couldn't trust her to not claim that she was a victim of extortion.
We are still evaluating our options, including small claims."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/mt/kalispell/distinctive-countertops-and-cabinetry-reviews-6094636.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Sureshine Marble And Stone Care & Restoration Services","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"MT","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Sheila D."},"reviewBody":"He was courteous and friendly. It looked very shiny afterward, but only lasted until I wiped it with water and dried it with a towel. Whatever he used didn't fill in the areas of warn off seal like I expected. I mentioned it to him before he left and he said it was normal. I asked him to patch the chips but he said I shouldn't because the pieces will fall out and they are sharp and could cut someone. My counter doesn't look any different than it does when I apply a granite polish preserver. I have never had the granite re-sealed before, so perhaps this is the best that can be done. But, it seems to me that it could have been done better. I feel I wasted $200.

From the first contact to the final clean up, Mike Cadle and his crew at Capitol Masonry were simply outstanding. Mike set an appointment with me and walked through the project. He offered suggestions and improvements to my original idea, worked with me to set a start date ( I had to coordinate with getting old iron railings removed), and was extremely fexible when the recent extreme cold weather delayed his other jobs - and getting to my job the very first day possible. Capitol was not the cheapest bid (hence the B, however, I got more than what I paid for), but their reputation preceded them, especially their experience dealing with older houses and trickier situations (my house is a 1930s stone house where nothing is plumb or square). Mike has worked with his crew for something like 13 years or more and it absolutely shows. No worries about a contractor talking a good game when providing an estimate, and then being sadly disappointed when the crew is somewhat clueless. These guys knew their stuff, adjusted to issues on the fly, and were great about a homeowner being on site and asking questions etc. They were early to the site every day, polite, knowledgeable and went above and beyond in pointing out little things that could be done to improve the final result. They tore off the old flag stones, removed the underlying sand and gravel, relaid new mortar bed, laid new flag stones and custom fit the steps and sides. They returned the next day to grout the flagstones and begin the tuck pointing of the house. Removing the old mortar between the irregular stones is messy work, but they were fast, and they matched the old mortar color really well (its difficult, if not impossible to get a perfect match, but they came very, very close and it will be indistinguishable after several months, if not sooner). They stayed late the second day, until dark, to finish the extensive tuck pointing job. The crew spotted some additional work that needed doing, and pointed it out to me. I gave them okay and called Mike, leaving him a message that I authorized some work outside of the estimate and that he and I could work out the additional charges. I was unable to talk to Mike because of my work commitment, but when I returned to the site late in the day, the additional work had been done and k*** was very fair regarding the cost of the additional work - and his crew performed it flawlessly. The crew returned the morning of the third day to remove their tools, trash out the old mortar and flagstones and left over materials and broom cleaned everywhere. Later that day they returned to acid wash the flagstone porch and pressure wash. They were meticulous about cleaning up, even giving my rear stone patio a quick and light extra pressure wash down - saving me from my regular spring chore. I've hired a lot of contractors in renovating five old houses over the years and have rarely been thoroughly impressed. MIke Cadle and all the guys at Capital Masonry thoroughly impressed me and I will be hiring Mike and his crew again in the near future for some concrete work . Mike Tarpey and Shamrock Carpentry recently completed building a 24x30 garage/shop for me. Suffice it to say Mike and his crew were simply AWESOME! Mike is as honest, ethical, trustworthy, and honest as the day is long. Additionally, he demands top- quality from his crew....if it is not...

They did a great job - very easy to work with. The countertop fabrication is beautiful and professional. They were very prompt with services when the custom cabinet was finished and I was ready for the countertop to be installed. I would definitely use them again when I remodel my kitchen.

"My son and I bought a house in Bozeman. Darren converted a basement utility room into a beautiful secondary kitchen. He was easy and straightforward to work with and we were thrilled with the results. A couple of years later, my son had a refrigerator leak that caused extensive damage to the kitchen upstairs and downstairs. This incident was compounded by a back up in the downstairs sewer line ruining the bathroom tile and flooring in the in several rooms downstairs. A restoration company I had been working with totally ignored us for months! In desperation, I contacted Darren and he stepped right in and came to our rescue. He communicated effectively and quickly with our insurance agent and with us. He restored all the areas in a matter of weeks to new condition. I can’t recommend Darren enough. If you are looking for: *Value for your money, *Skilled and quality workmanship, *Integrity, honesty, and respect, then Darren is your man."

"Ted and his crew are incredible. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They rebuilt an entire wing of my house (kitchen) that had catastrophic water damage from a leaking flat roof. This included demolition down to the foundation, reframing walls and roof, windows + doors, siding, insulation, floors, cabinets, butcher block countertops, building an island, sink install, interior window and baseboard trim, backsplash tiling, and a giant built-in pantry shelf. Ted is extremely customer conscious. He goes out of his way to think creatively to help save money on materials without sacrificing quality. Corners are never cut and he pays extreme attention to oft-overlooked details like flashing, plumb-ness of walls, and level-ness of floors. He provides detailed estimates, is transparent with pricing, and is significantly cheaper than most other contractors. His value is unparalleled and even on a tight budget, my forced kitchen remodel turned out incredibly. Thank you Ted + co!"
