"Sheldon and his team were everything you could want in a painter. Prompt communication, fair price, good advice and excellent work. They went above an beyond to fix the little things that they found. No extra cost. They even moved the wood pile away from the deck and restacked it. High marks across the board."

"The work was extraordinary and timely, they exceeded all of our expectations with their workmanship and vision. Other members of our family have already expressed to them their desire to have them do remodeling work for them. Highly recommend this company for any building project."

"I have absolutely no complaints.  Pete was pleasant to deal with and very responsive to emails and phone calls.  While visiting about the job, he told me they were about a month out, which was not bad because another company I talked to claimed to be a year out.  So, I gave Pete a check and the signed agreement.  A week and a half later, he called and said they could come out and do our roof.  His guys showed up when they said they would and worked through two blustery cold days.  The crew was friendly and a pleasure to talk to when asking questions.  They had the old roof off and the area cleaned really well the first day, a Thursday. The second day, a Friday, they had the shingles installed and only needed to finish the cap at the peak. They came back and finished it up on Saturday morning.  On each visit, they left the yard clean and in good shape.  I highly recommend Little Roofing and Construction if you have any roofing work you need done.

"Outstanding. The project manager was excellent. He kept the crew on task masking and painting. They took care of my property and made sure everything was taken care of and protected. The end result wasn’t just a house painting, it’s a work of art."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

You don’t necessarily have to remove all the old paint before repainting your deck, but it’s best to remove as much as possible to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish. Prioritize scraping off loose, peeling, or flaking paint, and sand down rough areas to create a smooth surface for the new paint to bond with.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.
