"This was my first experience with Angie’s list and it was a success! I’m a project manager and was in need of a painter ASAP. David, the owner responded immediately. He delivered a bid within a couple of days and his price was very competitive. Fresh Coat Painting finished the job more than a week ahead of schedule. Mike, his employee was a pleasure to work with; very friendly, punctual and talented. During the course of the project, I had additional drywall that needed to be completed. Again, David was able to give me a very competitive bid and completed the job well within the time allowed. I would recommend this company without hesitation. Fresh Coat Painting was an integral piece in the completion and success of our project. David has my permission to use me as a reference. I am thankful to have met this family and looking forward to many projects and years together."

"I was very pleased with the quality of work performed by Five Star. Besides doing a great job on my newly refurbished decks they were accommodating to our schedules and thorough in their work. I'd recommend them to others needing deck painting services."

"I have two cabins and two garages and two wood sheds an outhouse and porches on each cabin. He pressure washed everything, the porches he had to pressure wash three times. They were pretty dirty. He then masked the windows, rock and doors. Most of the painting was by brush. Some was sprayed. His work has added years to our property. I highly recommend hiring this man to paint your property."

"My new house was painted a dirty greige (grey + beige) throughout. It felt like a cave! I needed my ceilings painted white ASAP and Kevin Fournier and his crew did such a great job! They were professional and thorough. They painted every ceiling on the main floor in two days. I am super happy with their work and would definitely recommend and hire them again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Wood stain is typically dry to the touch within 6 to 12 hours, but it is not fully cured at this point. You should wait at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or a protective finish. For surfaces like decks, avoid walking on them for at least 24 to 48 hours, and wait even longer before placing furniture. The full curing process can take from 24 hours to one week, depending on the type of stain. Factors like high humidity and cold temperatures can extend drying and curing times, so it's wise to allow for extra time in these conditions.

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

When choosing between deck stain or paint, knowing what will last longer is important. Deck paint lasts longer than deck stain. With deck paint, you can get up to 10 years of coverage before you need to reapply. With deck stain, that time is significantly shorter at two to three years

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.
