"I contracted with them to install laminate flooring and to renovate a bath. There were some unforseen problems with the bath renovation due to former contractor not installing a vapor barrier. They had to expend many more manhours than expected, but did an outstanding job. They are very anxious to please. I am pleased with the results. Also, you can have complete confidence in thier word."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Professionals use the same methods found in this guide unless they’re decorating a particularly large Christmas tree. In that case, they may also make use of tools like extension poles to get the job done.

To hang Christmas lights outside without nails, consider using alternatives like adhesive hooks, gutter clips, or even hot glue. These options allow you to secure lights to various surfaces without causing damage to your roof or siding. Be sure to clean and prepare the surface before applying these alternatives for better adhesion.

While Christmas lights are a wonderful way to light up your home during the holiday season, they don’t have a long lifespan. Most incandescent Christmas light bulbs are designed to last between 1,000 and 1,500 hours—or about one to three holiday seasons. More durable LED bulbs should last about 10 times as long.

There are several ways to hang Christmas lights safely. Here are some key Christmas light safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always use Christmas lights and extension cords that are rated for outdoor use.

  • Don’t overload outlets by plugging in too many lights.

  • Opt for LED lights for a safer display that saves on energy costs.

  • Do not use old or broken Christmas lights.

Christmas light cords are long, thin, and flexible—which makes them exceptionally prone to tangling. As you try to untangle the very merry mess, the light bulbs and sockets may catch on the cords, making it even harder to pull cords through the knots.
