"Had a leaking well tank replaced by another well company in June of this year. We were having issues with way too much air getting in the plumbing months after the tank replacement-we contacted the original well company three times to please adjust the air pressure of the tank without success. My neighbor highly recommended Farve?s, I called. They came out same day and adjusted the air flow of the tank. Everything is great now, no more exploding faucets or toilets. Very friendly and professional. I highly recommend this company "

The cost to drill a well varies, but the national average is around $5,500 for a 150-foot well. However, prices can vary significantly based on location, well depth, and other factors, so it's best to research potential fees to get a more accurate cost assessment for your area.

Age is certainly a factor in well pump failure. The older your pump, the more likely it is to fail. 

Beyond age, other factors can cause your well pump to fail, too. Things like poor water quality can cause sediment buildup in your pump. Without proper cleaning, your pump can seize up and fail. Having a dry well for too long can also cause your pump to fail, as it keeps working even though there's no water for it to pull. 

There are a couple of ways you can determine the depth of your well. One method is to use a device called a well sounder. This tool has a long measuring tape containing a sensor to alert you once the end reaches the water. 

Or you can DIY it by using a long tape measure with a half-filled bottle of water attached to it. Lower the tape measure into your well. Once you feel tension on the tape, you’ll know the bottle has reached your static water level. This will give you an approximate idea of your well’s depth.

Buying a well drilling kit will save you money over hiring a professional. That said, digging a well is risky. If you make an error, you may have to get help fixing it. Also, the DIY costs are still pretty hefty when considering everything needed to complete the project successfully. You’ll need to account for the permit, pump, water tank, and more. If you don’t feel comfortable taking the necessary precautions to tackle this on your own, go with a pro.

All municipalities in the U.S. require a permit for septic tank installation or septic system alteration, and the permit will usually cost between $450 and $2,500. Some municipalities also require permits for septic system repair. You’ll either need to contact your local building department or your septic tank company to ask if this is necessary before carrying out the work. Permits are not typically required to have your septic tank pumped, so provided your septic company is licensed, you can move forward with the work as needed.
