Asked me to look everything over before he left and I said it looked great. If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

If the water damage is small, such as small patches, you can paint over the area. To prevent mold growth, roll on a coat of an antifungal primer beforehand painting. However, if the damage is more extensive, you may have mold, and the plaster will be compromised. You’ll have to replace the plasterboard.

Pool plaster lasts about 10 years on average for a pool with regular use. Over time, the plaster will degrade and may chip, peel, or crack. Once your pool plaster starts showing signs of age, plan to have it replastered once the weather is right to prevent further damage.

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster.
