Customers say: Quick response

"I could not be more pleased with the Blown in Insulation provided by APS Michael Ubanks crew. They arrived on time and walked me through the process. They blew insulation throughout my attic and insulated my pull-down stairs. They completed the installation, cleaned up the area and made sure I was fully satisfied before they left. The guys were courteous and polite. Mr. Ubanks followed up with me after the installation to ensure I was completely satisfied with the workmanship. I have noticed an immediate change in the ability to maintain temperature in my home. While the outside temperature over the past 2 days has ranged from 78 degs to 50 degs, the interior of my home has only varied between 68-70 degs without my heat or air operating during those 2 days. I am amazed with the difference the insulation has made in maintaining my home temperature. Thank you, APS Insulation Service"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

If the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it will take around six hours for your pipes to freeze—and they might even burst. That’s why keeping your mobile home’s temperature around 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary, even if you’re leaving it vacant for the winter. In addition, having ample skirting around the mobile home's underbelly will help keep pipes insulated during the winter.

Minimal but regular checks can ensure maximum thermal performance.

Chimney liners often benefit from insulation, though it is not always required. Insulation helps improve the liner's efficiency by keeping flue gasses hotter, which enhances draft and reduces creosote buildup. It also prevents condensation, which can lead to corrosion. Insulation is important for chimneys on exterior walls or in colder climates. Some building codes may require insulation, so checking local regulations is essential.

Unfaced wall insulation is easier to cut and install, making it the better choice for a DIY project. It’s also more affordable. But if it’s unfaced, you’ll likely need to add a vapor barrier to reach your desired R-value and efficiency, as it doesn’t offer any moisture barrier.

Faced insulation uses paper or foil to create a built-in barrier and doesn’t require an extra step. It’s also more fire-resistant and safe. But it’s quite a bit more expensive and a little bit harder to work with as a DIYer.

For a DIY solution to protect an outdoor faucet from freezing, you can craft a cover using spare rags, a durable plastic bag, and duct tape. However, be aware that this method may not be as effective as a store-bought cover. Fabric like rags or old towels can absorb water, which could freeze and cause problems. While a DIY cover can work as a temporary stopgap, a proper outdoor faucet cover is inexpensive (often $5 or less), easy to install, and readily available, making it the recommended long-term solution.
