"They prepared a foundation site for our 30x50 storage shed and the work was top notch. Not only did he prepare the site, he cleaned up all the trees that had to be cut down. While he was there I asked if he could bury a conex for me that I would like to use for a storm shelter and he was willing to do that the same week without any problem. Both projects turned out great! I also hired them to do excavation work behind my business to keep water from coming into the building when it rains and since that work has been done the rain doesnâ t flood my building anymore. Iâ ve been very pleased."

"I needed about 20 acres cleared to turn into pasture land. They came out back in February 2022, did an absolute amazing job for a great price. Will most definitely recommend them to everyone!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Look for soil color changes or unusual yard depressions, which indicate prior underground work. Any excavating within ten feet of your foundation requires a structural assessment, as shifting clay soils will destabilize your home. You must also identify private utility lines and undocumented French drains yourself, because the state 811 service only marks public utilities in MS.

Helpful?

Address drainage grading and French drain installation first. Grenada receives heavy rainfall, and the local clay soils hold surface water near your foundation. You should also verify the location of your aging sewer laterals or rural septic system. A licensed professional will handle the excavating to inspect these underground systems, keeping your property safe from erosion and structural damage.

Helpful?

Expect to need excavating around your foundation perimeter. The expansive clay soils in MS shrink and swell with moisture changes, putting severe stress on foundations. You should also anticipate excavating for sewer lateral repairs, as older cast-iron pipes frequently crack. Additionally, crawl space drainage systems and rural septic drain fields consistently require digging for repairs due to poor soil absorption.

Helpful?

Homeowners consistently underestimate the logistics of soil disposal. Excavated clay in Grenada expands heavily and is unsuitable for reuse as fill material. You must also account for mandatory utility locates through Mississippi 811, which require a few days of lead time. Furthermore, seasonal soil conditions heavily impact project timelines, as wet clay makes excavating exceptionally difficult and delays the work.

Helpful?

You must decide where to direct drainage outlets, ensuring water flows legally to a street or retention area. Homeowners in Grenada also dictate tree preservation, as removing mature hardwoods alters soil stability during excavating. Additionally, you are responsible for submitting permit applications and choosing whether to haul away heavy clay soil or import new fill material for the site.
