"Chris and his crew did an excellent job. Chris updated me throughout the project and made several helpful suggestions to improve the outcome. They trimmed the arborvitae’s in the front and removed unwanted ones in the back. They also ground down the stump leftover from a previously removed large honey locust tree, regraded, brought in compost topsoil mixture, fertilizer, and seeded. However, the largest part of the job was redoing the landscaping beds in front and back and under the deck. They removed the old mulch and weeds, regraded so water flows away from the house, laid down weed preventer and fabric barrier. Then they put down natural stone edging and brought in beautiful high quality, premium Indy Roll Rock. We couldn’t be happier!"

"Remove railroad tie wall [rotten] about 80 sq-ft vertical surface. Wall was L-shaped 35 ft x 15 ft. Yard had a redwood fence that had to be removed when the ties were removed. Neighbors yard had grass, plants and landscaping that needed to be protected and not damaged. Hackman did an excellent job removing the rotten railroad ties, installing drainage system with fabric protected 1" clean backfill and Versa Lok retaining wall system. To accomplish this they had to remove the redwood fence and reinstall the fence upon completion. Neighbor's yard was protected. Any tracks from hauling blocks and gravel on my yard were fixed to my satisfaction. The final bill was adjusted down to account for estimated costs that were not incurred. I am totally satisfied with Dale Hackman and his crew."

"Fabulous! They responded quickly and professionally. They showed up on time and the workers spoke English and were exceedingly friendly. The price was fair and they estimated the correct amount needed. This company will be my 'go to' in the future. Highly recommend!"

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Removal typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour per item, depending on accessibility and size.

Whether salt melts ice overnight will depend on how low the temperature drops. If temperatures stay around 30 degrees Fahrenheit, you can count on salt melting ice overnight. Otherwise, the lower temperatures get, the less effective the salt is in melting ice, and the more likely you’ll wake up with a slippery driveway the next day.

Yes, most states require that snow removal companies be insured under workers' compensation. This protects the employees financially if an injury were to happen (and when dealing with ice and snow, it’s possible that injury could occur). In addition, most states require snow removal companies to be covered under general liability, which would help cover the cost of any property damage incurred during the removal process.

DIY snow removal is entirely free, except for the cost of a shovel. However, it may not always be the best option for large driveways and areas with heavy snowfall; it’s strenuous work and can take a long time. Other wallet-friendly ways to remove snow include rock salt, hot water, a de-icing agent, or a leaf blower.

When starting the engine, you typically leave the choke on a snowblower in the "choke" or "closed" position. After starting, let the engine run for a few minutes to warm up. Then, gradually open the choke, moving it to the "open" or "run" position, allowing more air into the engine and transitioning to a normal fuel-air mixture. The exact duration varies based on the snowblower model and ambient temperature, but as a general rule, you should open the choke once the engine has stabilized and runs smoothly, typically within a few minutes.
