Small jobs welcome

"SEMO Drywall (Amanda) was great. I received a response from her within 24 hours and we scheduled the job within the next week. She communicated her arrival times and was on schedule everyday. So pleasant to work with and have in your home. Super knowledgeable about drywall, taping/mud, painting, etc. She finished a job that started and made it look amazing. I feel very comfortable that have that "drywall contact" now for all my needs. Would totally recommend SEMO Drywall without any questions."

"Chad painted our 30 year-old+ Morton building and it looks fabulous. The paint had faded and the building was looking pretty tired. Chad power-washed and then repainted using paint that will last for many years. I really appreciated the quality work. The lines between the two colors we chose were tight. Additionally, Chad overcommunicated to ensure we had current status without question--especially given this was such a large job. For example, it was raining one of the days he was scheduled to paint. He called anyway to make sure we knew he would not be there and provide an update on status. Awesome customer focus and experience! Excellent results! Highly recommend!"

Small jobs welcome

"Randy and his crew did amazing work for me. We had some bad luck with tremendous amounts of rain during the project and he always communicated extremely well what the plan was for that day and was very polite. Even with all the rain the work still got done in a timely manner at an extremely reasonable price. I will be using this company in the future and I would highly recommend them. You don’t always need big commercial construction companies to get the job done. Small business owners can do just of good as work and Randy and his company Inside N Out Services are proof of that. Attached are pictures of the before and after to see for yourself. Thanks Randy and your crew for all your hard work!!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

Plastering lasts for around 15 to 20 years without needing repairs or maintenance in most cases, and with proper upkeep, plastering can last a lifetime—sometimes more than 100 years. Plaster repair costs between $1 and $3 per square foot, and you may need these services once every 15 to 20 years or so unless you have a harsh climate where humidity changes are a constant issue. You can also opt to skim-coat plaster for between $0.90 and $1.30 per square foot, which may serve you better in the long run.

A common cause of separation between a wall and the ceiling is truss lift—this can happen to the ceiling of rooms directly under the attic when the seasons change and wood building materials dry out, shrink, and shift. Roof trusses often dry out at different speeds, and if the bottom pieces dry out faster than the top pieces, they can shrink and pull the attached drywall away from ceilings and walls, causing cracks. Fortunately, truss lift is only a cosmetic problem, not a structural problem, and you can fix it by separating the ceiling drywall from the roof trusses, and patching the cracks.

Your walls are likely cracking due to fluctuations in the temperature outside. Drywall tends to expand and contract when temperatures and humidity levels change, and this repeated movement can lead to cracks in your walls, particularly around door frames. If you have multiple diagonal cracks, you may want to have your foundation inspected, as cracks can also be a sign of a bigger issue.

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.
