"Caleb was thorough and professional. He knew his business and got the job done quickly. He kept the area clean and inspected our chimney outside as well. I finally found a fireplace service company that understands the value of a vent-free gas fireplace! We will be using Sleep Easy for all our service and repairs. I did not provide my address for privacy reasons."

"I had callled several fireplace shops to repair my 17 year old gas direct vent fireplace. They both said they do not work on my "Superior" brand & refered the other firm I had already called. Mike responded to my E-mail inquire & came by my home on time he said he would be there. Mike took off his shoes & went right to work. He cleand all of the parts & the fireplace stared right up. He will be bringing a new replacement valve next week. His price was right. You could tell he had been to factory school to learn how to repair the fireplace. To my suprise he knew several other people I know. Jim G"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A quality pellet stove that receives proper maintenance can last between 15 and 20 years, while most will last at least 10 years. The exact lifespan depends on factors like frequency of use and how well the stove is cared for. Proper maintenance—such as periodically cleaning the vents, vacuuming the ash pan, and refreshing the pellets as needed—can significantly extend its life, making it a worthwhile long-term investment.

Sap, despite its stickiness, is primarily made of water and is responsible for wood being “green” when it’s first cut. Green wood doesn’t burn very easily and will snap and crackle a lot, not ideal for a fire pit or fireplace. That’s why it’s best to let fresh, sap-filled wood season or dry out for at least a season before you start burning.

The project could take anywhere from one to five das, depending on the extent of the removal. Capping a gas line can be done on the same day, whereas completely removing a fireplace and chimney can span several weeks. Talk to your pro about the timeline and potential obstacles, like fireplace material, location, and potential structural issues.

Wood-burning fireplaces typically make homeowners insurance more expensive, simply because they increase the risk for a fire in your home. Gas and electric inserts are less likely to bring up your insurance rates, but you should always speak with your agent to understand how installing any type of fireplace will affect your premiums.

Neglecting to clean your chimney can lead to serious safety hazards. A primary risk is the buildup of creosote, a highly flammable substance that can ignite and cause a dangerous chimney fire. This buildup can also create blockages in the flue, resulting in poor venting of smoke, soot, and toxic gases like carbon monoxide, which can then enter your home and create dangerously poor indoor air quality. Additionally, creosote is acidic and can damage the chimney's mortar and metal components over time, potentially allowing smoke to leak into your house. To prevent these issues, it is essential to schedule an annual chimney cleaning with a professional.
