"Highly recommend Down & Dirty Land Clearing LLC for land clearing! Honest, hardworking, and efficient. He showed up with the equipment and left with the trees — exactly how it should be. Our property looks amazing and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. Bonus points for powering through the job fueled by what looked like a gallon of sweet tea — clearly part of the secret to getting it done right. 😄 If you need brush, trees, or overgrowth gone, D&D are your people. We’ll absolutely use him again! 🚜🌳"

"Chad and his crew are seriously the BEST! He installed a huge wooden privacy fence for us and cleaned up several different areas of our yard in the process including old tree stumps, and problem areas we had with his excavator. We were so impressed with his crew and their willingness to be creative with the fence and build up a up to large tree that we loved to include them in our fence line. I could tell after day 1 of the build that details mattered to him and the crew truly were experts in the field. I feel like we were working with the most knowledgeable crew out there and felt taken care of the entire time. Outside of being thrilled with the final product itself, Chad was the most professional and courteous guy we have worked with! His communication was top notch and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. THANK YOU CS Excavating and Fence! We will recommend you to all of our friends and family."

"Yes. The pro did the job right and efficiently! I had a pretty deep drop in the lay of the land right past the house. They sloped the land nicely, making a gentle slope with no danger of falls happening, making it possible to have a backyard behind the house. They also moved piles of dirt to other areas out of sight on the property I am very satisfied. I would highly recommend Brothers in Dirt!"

"DNS Excavation completed our land clearing/pond construction exactly as we had planned it. The dozer work was obviously done by an experienced operator, and they went above and beyond our expectations on clean-up and finish work. We will be using DNS Excavation for the next phase of our project."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Sewer lines can be buried anywhere from 18 inches to 8 feet deep, with a common average depth between 18 and 30 inches. The exact depth depends on local factors like climate and soil type. In colder regions, pipes must be buried deeper (below the frost line) to prevent freezing, sometimes as deep as 8 feet. The digging depth can also impact the cost of sewer line replacement. To find the specific depth for your property, you can check the building plans for your system, which should be on file with your city or local sanitation department since permits are required for installation.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

The average cost of excavation is approximately $3,200, with typical projects ranging from $500 to $15,000. Depending on the contractor, you may be charged between $50 and $200 per cubic yard or an hourly rate of $40 to $180 for an excavation specialist. The total cost is influenced by several factors, including the project size, the amount of soil to be removed, and the soil's condition. Hard soil, tree roots, or excessive rocks and clay can increase the price, potentially adding $200 to $1,200 to the final bill. Other factors that can drive up costs include the presence of nearby structures that complicate the work or tight spaces that require manual excavation instead of heavy machinery.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

The cost to repair a crawl space runs between $1,500 and $15,000, depending on the extent of the damage. Major flooding or water repairs can cost up to $10,000 for removal and repairs. If you simply need to clean your crawl space, expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for a major cleanout. Replacing a crawl space beam due to rot or damage can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, while removing and replacing damaged insulation costs between $1,000 and $4,000.
