"It was overall a good experience. The first shower door they put on wasn’t the right size for the shower, but they made a new one and the second door is awesome! The whole shower turned out wonderful!"

"We did a full remodel, a new shower along with tile flooring, a new vanity, and a toilet. We chose Bath Makeover of Arkansas because we could have one company do the entire project."

Small jobs welcome

"Aaron was prompt in responding to our service request and was very easy to talk to. He took out our old one piece shower stall and installed cultured marble walls to whatever color or pattern I wanted. Things went as exactly as he said. Everything looks really good and turned out out just the way I wanted. They even left things neat and orderly when they left. Would use O'Hara Construction again and highly recommend them to anyone."

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

A shower handle that turns all the way around usually means that the set screw holding the handle on has loosened. Find the screw and tighten it with a screwdriver. If that doesn’t work, replace the shower handle, as an internal component in the old one may have broken, causing the normal valve stop to disengage.

There are many benefits of converting a tub to a walk-in shower, including:

  • Increasing home value (if there’s another tub in the house)

  • Taking up less space and improving bathroom space flow

  • Making bathrooms look larger

  • Improving home safety by removing a major trip-and-fall hazard

  • Easing showering for those who benefit from more accessibility

  • Saving money on water bills

If properly installed and maintained, an acrylic shower should last 10 to 20 years. Acrylic costs more than fiberglass, but it's also a better value because it's among the most durable and damage-resistant materials used for shower walls. Acrylic showers tend not to chip, crack, or fade over time, even with regular use.

Most modern showers have a prefabricated base made from fiberglass or plastic, such as acrylic or polyurethane. Nonetheless, concrete mortar is still the traditional, go-to base for a custom walk-in shower.

You’ll need to add a waterproofing liner or membrane between the layers of mortar to keep moisture out. From there, you can top it with whatever type of tile you like to create a spa-like custom look. Be sure to include these considerations in your budget for the cost of a walk-in shower.

The amount of space needed depends on the size of the shower. For the standard 32-by-32-inch walk-in shower, you’ll need about 50 square inches. The International Residential Code requires a minimum of 24 inches of space in front of a walk-in shower’s entrance. That said, the National Kitchen & Bath Association recommends 30 inches of clearance, which is a bit more comfortable for most people.

Ideally, you’ll have enough room to open your doors and cabinets without interfering with your shower. This may not be possible in a smaller bathroom.
