"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Sears' package of services allowed me to worry very little because they coordinated all the trades. Sears has a longstanding reputation for standing behind their products, something I had not found to be true with other contractors I had used in the past. Thecarpenter/job coordinator who did the refacing work was wonderful to work with, making minor modifiations as necessary to fit my needs.  I had not originally intended to purchase new appliances, but Sears offered me such a great discount that I added a new cooktop, double ovens (which required some cabinet modifications), and a dishwasher, which were installed by the carpenter.  He also coordinated the quartz countertop and flooring installations. All of the work Sears did was well done and professional. After the job was completed, I noticed that a door in the den that had to be cut off to accommodate the new flooring was a bit rough, and they sent the carpenter back to fix it within a week. I was somewhat concerned that I would not like the laminate used to reface the wood cabinets, but it has turned out to be very attractive, more durable than wood, and easy to clean.  No one can even find the seams in the quartz countertop or the Congoleum flooring, so I feel that their workmen are very experienced and skilled. I not only would recommend Sears to others, I would use them again for other work."

"Justin was awesome!  He showed up on time for his estimate (which was the end of November), went over all the details, explained the scope of the job and provided an estimate of time required to complete the work.  He sent us an email with the cost of the job and followed up with us.  It has been my unfortunate experience in the past that contractors SAY they want the work, but are late or just never show up to do it!  Not J & B Construction!  They told us that they would squeeze us in before Christmas and they actually delivered!  We were dreaming of having the work done quickly, but we never dreamed that it could be done so well and so fast as what Justin and his crew delivered!  On top of that, Mike (Justin's dad) is a custom cabinet maker and he made all the cabinets for our new upstairs kitchen better and less costly than what we could have ordered them for at Lowes or Home Depot (I had them priced out there and was planning on ordering them for a contractor to install before Justin came out.)  When he told me that I could have all that I had selected with a few extra features thrown in, I was hooked!

Everything looks beautiful!  We are extremely pleased with the work that J & B Construction did at our home and will certainly be calling them back in for more (in fact, we are having them do more work in March!)  If you are searching for a contractor that will actually listen to your needs and desires too and then actually do a great job in delivering, then call Justin!  Fast, friendly, courteous, and professional!

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

Layout design, appliance upgrades, and material selections are crucial.

It depends on your carpentry skills and the type of cabinets you purchase. If you have a high level of skill, then it’s most likely going to cost less for you to build your own garage cabinets. It will take longer than purchasing pre-built cabinetry, but it will decrease your overall labor cost.

There are three primary ways to attach upper kitchen cabinets to a wall, and installers may use more than one method at a time. The most common method is to drive screws through the back of the cabinets and into studs in the wall behind. Sometimes cabinets are glued to the wall with strong adhesive. Often a combination of screws and adhesive is desirable. The last way is by hanging the cabinets on hardware brackets that attach to the wall before cabinet installation.

While a three-inch center-to-center handle is common, there’s no guarantee that sizing will be the same for every cabinet. Different types of handles have different sized holes to attach them and there are lots of different cabinet handle widths and styles. You should measure to be sure you know the size of a handle and to avoid surprises.

DIY is possible, but professional assembly ensures proper alignment, stability, and cable management.
