"Mike is an exemplary professional. He was so generous in trying first to help me troubleshoot over the phone. He came out on a Saturday morning for a very reasonable rate. He had the issue fixed in an hour and my family was warm and toasty very quickly. I have told anyone who will listen that Mike is the HVAC guy they want to hire for any of their needs. Will certainly use him for future HVAC needs."

"Technician was quiet, unobtrusive, efficient. He told me what work was done and the condition of my HVAC system. He dutifully recommended a couple of accessory items for me to consider, but did not “push” them."

"Jon is truly the nicest, most honest guy in the business. We purchased a new A/C and furnace unit in 2019. He made an impression and Iâ ve always known to call him for HVAC surface. Most recently he came out on a Sunday evening for my momâ s A/C that was struggling to keep the house cool. He identified it was low on Freon, but before he did, he checked everything thoroughly. He reassured my mom that only the coolant was needed and did not try to oversell her anything. Truly an amazing business owner."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

The standard HVAC warranty is around five years. Still, many brands offer an extension to 10 years if you register the product within a specific timeframe, typically 60 to 90 days post-purchase or HVAC installation. Over the past decade, warranty periods have substantially increased, shifting from 3-5 years in the 90s to the now-prevalent 10+ year warranties. Both warranty types cover parts failing due to manufacturer defects, incurring no additional costs. Some manufacturers provide extended warranties surpassing the usual 15- to 20-year window, though these often involve extra fees.

A one-stage air conditioner only has one setting, while a two-stage air conditioner has a high and low setting. A two-stage air conditioner costs between $500 and $2,500 more than a traditional air conditioner, but it has a longer lifespan and helps to increase energy efficiency. To make this decision, you should consider your energy needs and available budget.

It depends on the specifics of your warranty. The motor is likely not covered if you’re working with a limited warranty. The same goes for other components like the compressor and evaporator coil. Some extended warranties will cover the blower and fan motor, so read the fine print before signing up. Additionally, the manufacturer may offer a warranty for the parts, including the motor, though there’s likely to be a strict time limit for this coverage.

Yes, a dirty evaporator coil can freeze up. Dirty evaporator coils can’t absorb or transfer heat properly. The dirt and grime restrict airflow, which is needed to move heat throughout the system properly. Your air conditioning unit could freeze over, or it can cause your heat pump to freeze.
