"I was a bit skeptical about their energy-efficient windows but after having them installed my bill went down by over 50%. Their products are as good as advertised and the installation was perfect."

"Matt arrived on time and was efficient at replacing floor tiles. Do you think customer service is gone, well so did we until Matt Hemingway came to replace three broken tiles. He finished in 90 minutes and that included going back to hardware store for a different color grout because he didn't like the way it looked. When done you could not tell the floor had been fixed. Excellent job. Highly recommend."

"Well....where do I begin. For starters, we had agreed on a start date (which coincided with my vacation from work) but the day before that began I called to confirm. They did not have the courtesy to tell me they were behind and wouldn't be able to start when we had agreed (which had been almost 2 months prior). Demo went well, floors went in, electric was done and had to be redone to add outlets that were agreed upon with the original plans, then the cabinets were installed. I felt sorry for the guy that installed them. He was here all alone to install. He had to go down the street to ask a neighbor guy that was outside to help him bring in the one corner cabinet. He did a great job though but it probably would have been a lot easier and quicker if there were 2 installers. Then, when he was here installing the cabinets, he brought up question as to why they didn't extend the tile floor so that it was completely under all the cabinets instead of ending where they did (we extended the counters about a foot). Now all I can see is that the tile is short and it doesn't look right. No one had even made that suggestion when they did the design. I also think that I paid twice for some things (like I bought my own flooring tiles and countertops and I know that was in the original estimate.) There was a lot of miscommunication or lack of any communication unless I called or emailed them first. Once everything was FINALLY finished, it looked good but am finding things wrong after using the kitchen for the last few months."

"Having three prior contractors say the job was too big for them (I do not understand that either), I tried Home Advisors. Mat was the only one of the three listed companies who called me. Mat did very little of the install. Most was handled by a man by the name of Mike on his staff. Mike was a hard worker and seemed to know what he was doing. I appreciated his work ethic. I have little to say about Mat and his brother (also on his staff), as they did not put in the time that Mike did. The first two days were 6.5 hour days (out of which came their lunch time). That was a big odd but as I was not paying by the hour, I was okay with it. The last two days Mike was the only person working at my house. My main issue was that on their fourth and last day of work, they really rushed to finish. Since I was leaving my house at 5 pm, I told them they would have to leave by then. They did not have to finish that day, just be gone by 5 that day. I was okay with them finishing up the next day. But Mat came over around 3 and they rushed through finishing and I did not have time to do an end-of-job quality inspection as I was leaving as they were. And I did, unfortunately find a spot that was not covered. At our initial meeting, Mat explained that I should order 10% over because you wanted to be sure you had some product leftover. However, in their last minute haste to finish before 5, and my haste to get out the door, I did not think about checking the house or garage for leftover flooring. When I realized I did not have any I sent a text to Mat and he said I did not tell him I wanted any. I replied that he said it was important to have leftovers. And certainly there had to have been a couple of planks left. He said, no there were not. Just scrap that was not any good or it was defective and it had already been dumped. (First time I heard of defective material! If that was the case, why did not he tell me that so I could have the manufacturer make good on it?) I was really surprised that after convincing me that I needed leftover material, that his response was that I did not tell him I wanted it. I never felt like he was willing to take responsibility for anything he said. He had an excuse for any issue that I raised. I WAS always misunderstanding things. He said he was charging me to dispose of everything and I never stated that I wanted it. Now it is certainly possible that we simply had a personality clash, but the fact that he kept saying I SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM I wanted to keep some leftover material was the last straw. My belief is that they were in a hurry, threw it all in the truck, and left. I found it unprofessional and I could not recommend them."

"Very nice young man, kept me well informed. He did a tiled shower stall for me. Ran into a problem with water line and drain replacement, he contacted two plumbers for me for I knew no one here. Kept the work area clean, after each day they were here. I cannot say enough good things about this young man ! Please give him a call for estimates and hopefully a job! Thanks for a beautiful shower stall! Great job !"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Solvents dissolve tile adhesive, but the right solvent for the job depends on what type of adhesive you are trying to remove. For instance, dispersion adhesive requires stronger removers, like bile soap or even paint stripper, but some adhesives, like cement-based products, can come off with water and soap or mortar remover.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

Here’s another instance of where the answer is you could, but that doesn’t mean you should. Yes, part of the issue is getting the drywall to stay in place on the tiles, and it’s understandable that screws will crack the tiles and cause them to crumble. That’s why it’s a much better idea to screw drywall into studs, not your porcelain or ceramic tile. But aside from issues with attaching the drywall, it’s also about ensuring a smooth application without trapping moisture inside.
