"Hoffman concrete was upfront on timeline and provided a reasonable bid. Planning of the project was done over a couple site visits. 2 days of prep for the driveway, patio, and steps. Mark the owner was present on both mornings the concrete arrived and helped with part of the work. When not on site the remaining crew was competent and paid attention to details. They cleaned up very well and were clearly interested in producing a quality result. Frequently updated me on the progress and asked me for clarification on how I would like some details. I appreciate their services and effort. Great results."

Customers say: Super punctual

"This was a pretty big job. Sam and his crew build a new concrete block retaining wall and re-graded my entire back yard to match the new elevation the new wall afforded. All-in, 20+ palettes of block and 230 tons of gravel & topsoil. The end result is a stunning improvement."

"Signature Landscaping did an excellent job of planning and executing the planting in our front yard.  We were pleased with the design and with the outcome as well as the quality of materials and timeliness.  Tom Schrieber was responsive and checked on the work regularly.  We would recommend this landscaping company.

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

Yes, it is possible to pave over an existing driveway, but whether it's the right choice depends on several factors. If the underlying structure of your current driveway is still strong, concrete or asphalt resurfacing can be a cost-effective way to prolong its life. However, if your driveway has significant issues like potholes, deep cracks, or other inconsistencies, it is best to remove the old driveway and start from scratch. Key factors to consider include the current driveway's condition, the compatibility of the new material, the added thickness and height, and the necessary surface preparation.

A 500-square-foot driveway can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000, depending on the type of pavers you choose. Grass and concrete pavers are more affordable, while stone and cobblestone pavers are on the higher end of that price range. You’ll save some money by DIYing the installation, though we highly recommend sticking with a professional for this type of driveway installation.

The best way to stop your pavers from sinking is to ensure you've properly compacted the base layers. Use your paver compactor and work over the base layer several times to create the hardest possible base. If the soil and sand of your base are compact, you’ll experience less shifting and sinking.

To adhere pavers to concrete, you can use either mortar or a concrete-specific adhesive. For border pavers, a polyurethane-based adhesive is a good choice as it expands and contracts with temperature changes, keeping them firmly in place. For the non-border pavers, polymeric sand is used between the joints to prevent shifting. In most cases, it is also recommended to lay a permeable sand layer below the pavers to ensure proper stability and drainage. Before starting, always take the proper preparatory steps for a professional result.
