"I recommend A & M Tree Services LLC because they do excellent work at fair prices. They responded to my request for an estimate quickly and arrived on time to provide it. I accepted it and there was an opening the next day. The crew arrived the next morning and had my large tree removed and the yard cleaned up by afternoon."

"Envirogreen was one of many tree service companies I called on for a tee removal... I was impressed on the timely manner they got the job done. From the time Ryan came out to give me a bid, and actually completed the removal, of the tree, and the stump, and hauled off all the debris, was less than a week. I would definitely recommend Envirogreen. They were professional, knowledgeable, and were reasonably priced. I will hire them in the future for other services."

Small jobs welcome

"This contractor promptly responded and gave an estimate to trim and shape 2 spiral pine trees. The crew came out the same day to start work. Trees were cut to the requested height and cleaned up. The trees did not look very good after the trimming. Per request, the crew returned and did a fantastic job removing the trees to make way for new trees. Great job, and thank you for the fantastic customer service."

"We had a great experience with Leon and his team! They trimmed bushes, cleaned up the yard, added mulch and removed a small tree. We had excellent customer service from the quote to the the completion of the project. The price paid was fair and Leon is definitely knowledgeable and has good ideas for additional yard projects. We will use them again!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If you don’t trim your palm trees, you can expect several negative outcomes, including:

  • Unhealthy palm trees attract pests, diseases, and fungi

  • Dead falling fronds can cause severe injury or damage to your home, pedestrians, or cars

  • Dead palm branches are flammable and can catch fire, especially during a lightning storm

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

The best way is to start controlling tree height long before it grows too large, via careful pruning through the years. But that’s not always possible. If a tree has become too high or too large, use selective pruning to remove the most troublesome branches, one by one, without topping the tree. Gently shaping a tree like this can, over time, correct problems. You can also find growth inhibitors to spray on a tree to stop it from growing too rapidly, but use these sparingly if at all.

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

If you don’t cut down a dead, dying, or diseased tree, it can become a nesting place for pests like mosquitos, bees, beetles, wasps, fly larvae, and more. Some pests will live in the tree, while others will feed off the decaying wood. Unhealthy trees are also more likely to fall over, potentially injuring people and causing damage to your property.
