Mike Baumann said the tree needed to come down. The tree came down today, at the stump was a hollow area in diameter. Had we not taken the tree down it would have likely fallen on our house in the next few years. The workers were spot on, cleaned up everything. Excellent value for the money"

The life span of a bird’s nest depends on the type of bird building and occupying it. The process of building the nest can take anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. From there, the baby birds may need anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks before leaving the nest. But sometimes, cutting down a tree is the only option (like if it’s severely diseased). A licensed arborist can assess the tree and recommend the best course of action.

For the most part, homeowners don’t need permission to cut down a tree on their own private property. But there are some exceptions. If the tree is very large, very old, or protected for any reason (it’s a heritage species, for example), then you may need a permit in order to cut it down. Trees that are close to public property or power lines may also be subject to special rules. You can face hefty fines if you don’t follow local tree protection ordinances, so it’s worth checking with the appropriate government agency before you fire up your chainsaw.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.

Licensing requirements for arborists vary by state and municipality, so you should use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to see if your arborist needs a license. Even if an arborist license isn’t mandated in your area, it’s a good idea to hire one that has at least a business license, business insurance, and certification from a third-party organization, like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). Licensed arborists tend to have more experience and are more likely to provide a professional solution to your tree problem.
