Customers say: True professional

"AAA was able to quickly handle an emergency situation with a large tree in my front yard. They arrived within minutes of being contacted and resolved the issue. Then they returned a few days later to complete the work that wasn't as urgent. They left my yard in great shape and picked up all of the chips, branches and twigs. Recommend."

Emergency services offered

"I had a very large Pin Oak that had a lean and had developed what appeared to be a crack going through it, so it needed to be removed for safety. Worse, the discovery of the crack was after Thanksgiving when added expenses are at the worst possible time before the holidays. These guys worked with us to fit it into our budget and got the project started without delays. Additionally, they maintained communication circumstances caused delays; there was a major storm that delayed things a week and then X-mas. Due to the size of the tree and it being hindered by an even larger twin-tree getting in the way it was a project that I expected to take several days - it took them only 2.5 actual working days to get it done; just in time as a week after they finished another storm came through the area that brought down several trees. I had approached 5 companies for this project, these guys were the only ones willing to make it a priority vs. taking weeks to schedule; two of the companies we called didn't even show up to place a bid. When it comes time to take down that other tree, we will be calling Hawkins Tree Service. We have already recommended them to friends and will continue to recommend them."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Many species, especially when well-established, are not fans of transplantation. You’ll need to decide if you want to risk splashing the cash, understanding that transplantation isn’t always successful. Again, this is where hiring a pro is helpful, as they can give you all the essential info you need to ensure your tree stands a fighting chance.

The best way to protect tree roots is to avoid the roots entirely by excavating outside the root radius of the tree. For nearby projects, it’s a good idea to construct a temporary retaining wall. But that’s not always possible, depending on the project and the root system. In these cases, consider using alternative equipment like an auger to tunnel under the ground.

Remember, tree roots can damage nearby cement foundations as they grow. If a tree is close enough to interfere with large excavations, it may be better to remove the tree than risk future problems.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.

Once you confirm a tree is dead, you should remove it. Dead trees eventually fall, and larger trees in particular can cause damage to rooftops, fencing, flowers, and other objects. As we mentioned, letting decayed wood stay in your yard also invites risks to the surrounding landscaping and vegetation.

Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Other products, like fertilizer that contains lots of nitrogen, can enhance the process and rot a stump in about a year. (This is compared to the ten years it can take naturally for a stump to rot.)
