"They did a good job. They answered all my questions and had good communication. My driveway was an old two-lane road about 1700 feet long. They patched what they could I did a good job sealing it up. I will use them again when the need arises!!"

"Ricardo from 4 star landscaping did a fantastic job on my drainage problem. He was very knowledgeable about the best way to make it affordable and take care of the problem. His team was very professional, was on time and came up with some other ideas. A neighbor, who had the same problem, hired them to do their work and to do other landscaping. "Foundation 1 did not try to sell us services which were not needed, and even said we could get by with just epoxy injection and wait and see. We decided to go ahead and be proactive in bracing the basement wall. Their price was less than another bid we received. Crew was hard working and professional."

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues. 

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.
