"Very professional service from Metro Radon. Mark was very thorough explaining the installation and was prompt with communication. Installation was done in about 4 hours and he worked with our schedule to return in order to get an accurate test of radon levels. Our radon level was 4.0 pCi/L prior to the mitigation, after Metro installed the system, went down to 0.7. Highly recommend Mark!"

Small jobs welcome

"I used Scope Environmental recently to test floor tile and the underlying mastic to determine if either contained asbestos. I selected Scope because Jeff was very responsive, professional, independent of the abatement companies and his price was competitive. Jeff suggested testing both the tiles and mastic. The tiles tested positive for asbestos but the mastic contained no asbestos. As a result, I saved considerable expense by abating the tiles only and not the mastic so I also used Scope again for the post abatement air testing rather than the abatement company. I would hire Scope again for material and air testing for asbestos, mold or any other potentially toxic materials."

"It went great! They set up a system in my parent's house and they mitigated the radon down to a save level. They did a test before and after, and I was satisfied with the results. Proper Environmental did a thorough job and would recommend this company to anyone!"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.

Radon is the number one non-smoking cause of lung cancer in the United States, but it can cause some other concerning side effects in the meantime. If you have a raspy voice, chest pains, trouble breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any of the above, don’t hesitate to perform radon testing and install a mitigation system as soon as possible.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is naturally present everywhere, it is impossible to avoid entirely. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking action to reduce radon levels if your home's test results are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

Options include sub-slab depressurization, crawlspace ventilation, and sealing cracks. Choose based on home construction and radon levels.

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.
