"Mike was early which I liked a lot. He was professional and took great care with my fireplace and surroundings. He was knowledgeable about this 20 year old fireplace and gave some great advice on it. He was here for a little under an hour and in that time completely cleaned, serviced and made sure that it was working before departing I have already recommended Central Sweep and Mike to a family member who needs their fireplace looked at and I would easily recommend him to anyone else who needs fireplace service."

"The job was tuck pointing the chimney, also flashing repaired, installation of smoke guard & damper. Steve was always on time, always kept up with phone calls & any follow up calls. Was a pleasure doing business at a fair price. Will be calling Steve back in the spring for additional work."

Fireplace Cleaners questions, answered by experts

Hard materials like glass, metal, and hardwood floors, washable fabrics, and undamaged electrical appliances can often be salvaged after a fire, although it depends on the extent of the damage. For washable fabrics, make sure to use a phosphate mix during the washing process to extract the smoke smell. There are a few things you should throw away after a fire, like canned foods and cosmetics, even if they don’t look like they’re damaged.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.

Cracks in the chimney can be very serious, depending on their location and size. Even small cracks can become serious over time if left unrepaired. Cracks allow heat and moisture to deteriorate your chimney and harmful carbon monoxide gas to seep into your home. Small cracks can often be caulked, while large cracked sections may require full replacement.

No, you can't apply limewash with a roller and expect good results. Limewash is as much a technique as it is a type of paint, and a freehand application with a brush is part of that technique. Hand brushing a large area can be tiring, but limewash goes on easily and only requires thin coats to be effective.

With a little ingenuity, an old fireplace insert can be transformed into a decorative centerpiece that infuses new life into any room. Consider placing LED lights or candles inside to create a captivating display that simulates the warm glow of a fire. Another option is to repurpose the insert as a charming bookshelf by adding rustic shelves within the firebox. For plant lovers, converting the fireplace insert into an indoor garden is a perfect way to bring nature indoors. You can also transform it into a stylish wine rack.
