"First, Bob stopped by with an estimate at the agreed upon time. Then, within a few days we scheduled the work.  He arrived on time and started right away. He worked with the back porch ceiling fan light first. This very old fixture was ancient however Bob took the time to disassemble and installed the new ceiling fan. He is very meticulous at his job. Then, he worked with installing track lighting in the dining room area.  The track lighting is beautiful too.  Lastly, he worked with replacing the back porch light located outside.  He had to use an extension ladder to reach the light.  He completed all jobs within about couple hours.  Bob was very personable and professional.  He remained focused with the jobs. He is skilled at his job.
Bob did a terrific job! Great job!  We will hire Bob again in the future.

"I am so impressed with the professionalism and integrity of this company and the individual who did work!  I noticed 2 wet spots at the top of my skylight on the ceiling. Two years ago I had a roofing company replace the shingles around my skylights so I got back in touch with them to find out what was wrong. I was told that squirrels had chewed through the flashing and it needed to be replaced and they would return in a few days to fix it.  After 2 weeks of no service and numerous phone calls I finally gave up and contacted another roofer.  I was told, by the owner, it would cost $1,100 to fix the problem so I said I'm getting another estimate I'll get back with you.  A friend who was having his roof replaced told me he found Southern Grace Exteriors on Angie's List and was very happy with the company. I called and someone came out for an inspection that same day. He spent a good amount of time up on the roof and provided me with pictures on an Ipad that he was able to enlarge so I could see exactly what the issue was.  First of all there was NO squirrel damage, then I learned only 1 shingle had been replaced around one skylight and 2 around the other!  The leak was being caused by the deterioration of the seal around the window the of skylight and had nothing to do with the roof or shingles.  He resealed the skylight, cut a branch that was rubbing on the roof, and sealed a small crack near a gutter on my stucco. I was charged $100.00 for the work he did that day and he earned every penny!  It makes me mad thinking I could have spent $1,100 and still the problem would not have been solved.  I called and asked Southern Graces Exteriors to return and do the other work I have listed above because I knew I'd get honest work done at a very reasonable price.

"This was not a big project but repairing my stairs handrail that was getting dangerous for us. Was hard to find someone to come out for a small job. But Custom came out and did a fantastic job fixing the handrail. I have future large outside exterior projects and they get first call."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Prevent future skylight issues by conducting regular inspections, ensuring gutters are clean to prevent water pooling, applying protective sealants periodically, and trimming overhanging branches that might cause physical damage to the skylight.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
