"Recently, we had to have a 150 year old Oak Tree removed. The tree had an enormous canopy which provided shade for our patio and also kept the sun from shining directly into our family room. Once it was down, we realized we needed to look for a solution that would give the shade we needed. After researching several solutions, we called Innovative Shade Solutions to talk about an awning. Daveâ ¦owner of the companyâ ¦came out and detailed several approached to mitigating the issue. We decided on an awning that was approximately 13.5 ft. wide by 11 ft. deep. It had a motor to extend and retract the awning and also has a feature that will retract the awning ini strong wind gusts. The awning is beautiful and effective. Dave and his son did the installation personally. We couldnâ  t be more pleased as the project was delivered on time and is beautiful. Underpromised and overdelivered! By the wayâ ¦Rachelâ ¦Daveâ  s wife was wonderful to work with regarding shipping, delivery and installation. We strongly recommend Innovative Shade Solutions!"

"We love all of the work Dale Kotty has done for us! Our home has curb appeal now! The crew was very professional and respectful to our property and our 2 dogs. We never heard a curse word like you tend to hear from construction workers. Dale was on site daily checking over the house and progress. The day they finished I was sad that we didn't have anymore work to hire Dale for. If your looking for great product and top notch customer service Kotty siding and windows is the only way to go!

"The initial presentation and explanation of Sun Esta awnings from Shade Your World and how they would be installed was great. We appreciated the time Karen took to explain everything in great detail. Our installation was a bit of a unique situation with limited space to anchor the awning to the house and because of this, we requested Gary (the owner of Shade Your World and the one who does the installations) to come to double-check everything before placing the order to ensure everything was going to fit exactly the way we wanted. Without any hesitation, he came out to look at our situation to assess and confirm where the awning would be installed. Customer service is just as important as the quality of the awning and it is obvious Gary knows this by how he took plenty of time to patiently answer any questions we had before purchasing an awning as well as during and after the installation process. The installation went smoothly and quickly and was even done on a holiday weekend. Since installation, we have enjoyed using the awning daily. The awning along with the drop-down shade not only provides a more comfortable environment on our deck, but also helps keep a lot of direct sunlight from coming into our house, keeping it cooler during the summer months. I would highly recommend hiring Shade Your World to any friend and family member in the future."

"George installed the new back porch light after previous one fell off the wall. Everything looks great and everything was cleaned up after the installation. Price was exactly what Brandon quoted me over the phone. No surprises."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install an awning yourself, and it can be an excellent DIY project with immediate benefits. This is most feasible for smaller, pre-assembled units. However, awnings are often heavy and awkward for one person to handle, so you should always have at least one helper. If you have difficulty lifting heavy objects, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper mounting and durability.

Yes, awnings can add value to a home, primarily by boosting its curb appeal and providing more usable outdoor space. While the exact monetary return on investment depends on the awning's size, style, and quality, they offer an excellent appeal factor to potential buyers. For example, an awning with a trendy metal roof can be particularly attractive. Even if the direct increase in resale value is modest, a well-chosen awning enhances the home's functionality and aesthetic.

Costs range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.

Hurricane fabric is a temporary form of hurricane protection that offers an alternative to boarding up windows or installing traditional storm panels. Unlike hurricane screens, which are permanently attached to your home, hurricane fabric is installed over your windows and other openings before a storm.

In terms of effectiveness, hurricane fabric is tested and proven to protect homes from Category 5 hurricanes, which can have winds over 157 miles per hour. When installed properly, it is designed to block the majority of wind and rain and protect against water, debris, and projectile damage.

While the fabric is exceptionally durable, windows can still break if hit directly by flying debris at high velocity. However, it is a good protective measure against an impending storm. For comparison, hurricane fabric is more protective and durable than hurricane window film. While boarding up windows is easier than installing the fabric, it is more labor-intensive and requires storing heavy plywood.

To further increase the chances of your windows surviving a hurricane, you can take additional steps like securing outdoor items, elevating HVAC units, and fortifying your home's foundation.
