  • Horizontal opening width of the enclosure base

Keep in mind that the shower walls may not be plumb in some older homes. This can complicate measuring and installing a shower door, so bringing in a pro can make things go smoother.

Shower door glass should be at least 3/8 inch thick. Any less than that, and you run a higher risk of the glass shattering if the door is closed too hard or something falls against it. The glass is sometimes thicker for custom shower doors.
