The modern suburban and small town home of today has become an ideal lightning target. The home owner would do well to recognize lightning for the destructive force that it is and protect against this major life and fire hazard. Donohue's Lightning Rods is based in Missouri, near the factory where most of the residential and commercial lightning rod supplies are manufactured. Jim travels regularly to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New York. Call today to find out when Jim will be in your area. For installations outside Missouri, Kansas, or Texas, Jim waits until there are a few customers lined up, thus being able to provide the same quality services at affordable prices. **WE DO NOT DO ELECTRICAL SERVICES.** (ONLY LIGHTNING RODS)

"We were contacted immediately regarding adding a lightning protection system on our home. Seamus was very thorough and knowledgeable regarding our concerns. He and his crew showed up and were very professional and efficient. We are very pleased with the installation and highly recommend Donahue’s."

"Would give 0 stars if I could. Would NOT recommend as a general contractor. I hired him for a 300 sq foot addition to my house. He subbed out the work to Robison construction. Robison construction did some demo work to remove some deck and a shed addition on the house where the addition was going. They were not good at cleaning the construction area when they left for the day. They piled insulation from the demo work in my current bathroom and left it there. Robison did the footing and stem wall for the addition. The problems with the stem wall were numerous. First it was only 6 inches wide for an exterior 6 inch wall, which could work, but on top of that it was 3 1/2 inches out of square per 3 other contractors that I had come look at it after Guth pulled out of my project. They put no horizontal rebar in the wall to tie into vertical rebar, per the men that actually poured the concrete. They pulled the forms off the wall withing 4 hours!! They lacked about 6 inches of getting the forms all the way to they existing house where it was tying in and so they used 2, 2" PVC pipes (one on each side) as forms tie it into the house. They removed one of the PVC pipes with the forms, but couldn't get the other one out. The sub had to cut the other one out. So where they used the PVC pipes as forms, the wall was only 4" thick tying into existing house. With so many issues with the foundation I told the general, Ryan Guth, that I wanted the foundation inspected before they built on it, because it had so many issues. When I told him that, he pulled out of my job, claiming hostility on my part and delays. After he pulled out and I had other contractors inspect the foundation, I asked Mr Guth to honor his warranty for the work that had been done. So he sent his sub out and the sub cosmetically fixed the area that was only 4" wide where it tied into my house with a bucket of some sort of cement mixture. I had given him 33% down for the entire project which was $13,860. When he pulled out, he gave me an itemized statement of the work that had been done and issued a refund of $165. He significantly inflated the price of the horrendous, substandard work that had been completed to keep most of my 33% down. His sub at one point when I was questioning him about the concrete work, actually lied straight to my face in front of the general. This general and the sub he used are dishonest and unethical and I would absolutely not recommend them."

Doorbell installation services FAQs

The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.

It’s important to ask an electrician a few questions before you commit to hiring them so you can make an informed decision as a consumer. If you’re getting estimates or considering hiring an electrician, ask them these questions:

  • Are you a full-time electrician?

  • Are you bonded, licensed, and insured?

  • What level of experience do you have as an electrician?

  • Can you please share three references?

  • Do you do residential or commercial electrical work?

  • What kinds of electrical work are you most familiar with?

  • Will any subcontractors be performing the work?

  • Are permits and inspections required?

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and inspections?

  • What is your schedule?

  • Do you offer a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Will you sign a do-not-exceed clause to keep the job within the budget?

Yes, you should get a quote or an estimate from an electrician. Most electricians offer free estimates or quotes. When getting quotes, do your research and verify each electrician’s license. Get quotes from three different electricians to compare. If the prices or items listed appear different on the quotes, ask the electrician to clarify. Learning as much as you can about the electrical work you want done will help you get the most accurate estimate.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
