"I was remiss I’m not asking the price of a sump pump replacement, so I had sticker shock when I heard the estimate. I needed the work done so I went ahead. Jody was punctual and professional and very friendly. He did a good and thorough job. Excellent clean up, too."

"The epitome of professionals. Called Sunday afternoon after the first couple companies way over quoted the job. LJ recommended ordering what we wanted and they would work around it. Tall task given the first quotes all but required there install products. He sight unseen guaranteed he would have the best quote. Guess what, they installed what we wanted at a considerably more fair quote. The team showed up at 4:30, quoted me, and offered to install. Even after a long day. Mind you, our sink was believed at 11. They still showed, provided quality work and customer service. Call these guys."

"If you have any plumbing needs you won't go wrong with Mac Wilson Plumbing. We were in pretty bad shape with water in our basement. Our house didn't have a sump pump, and they came out on a Sunday to give us a free estimate. They scheduled the installation that same week, and we couldn't be more pleased with their work, professionalism and diligence. They went over and above, and have earned our loyalty. Five stars isn't enough!"

"Called them for grinder pump repair. The technician showed up to do an estimate but just found a small power shortage and the issue was solved. He was only here a few minutes so there was no charge"

"Dan and Brian installed a new Goodman dual fuel heat pump/nat gas furnace for us. Dan pretty much left me free to make my own choices regarding what type of system I wanted. There are so many choices in that regard. He was helpful in giving me his take on the pros and cons of all the different heating and cooling variants. I can't speak to the "value for money" question. It's March 2023 and things are going up in price so quickly. I am satisfied with what I paid for the system. I decided to change some things about how our system was originally installed, Dan and Brian were flexible regarding that and it was something I appreciated about them. They both always explained anything I had questions about. I thought the quality of their work was top notch. I found them both to be very skillful at what they do. Dan is the owner and it was nice to have the owner of the business right there on the job. I'd be remiss not to mention the skill and years of training that Brian has. Also, he's a neatnick; because of his nature I think it would be impossible for him to do sloppy work. The last thing I would mention is, if you want to invite workmen into your home who are professional, respectful, and punctual, these are your guys. I was happy to have them working in my home and would recommend them to you."

"If you hire The Handy Man, you will very glad you did! Dealing with Roger was an extremely pleasant experience. We received a quote the same day we explained our repair needs and he kept his word upon completion. He answered all our questions and we trust his advice completely. We could not be happier with his work and would highly recommend The Handy Man.ð"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

No. Sump pumps have different capacities, which refers to the volume of water that they can remove. They also come in various horsepower ratings, which measure the size of the pump’s motor. For many homes, 1/3 horsepower is enough. But if you live in an area that floods often, you might need a more powerful model.

You should be fine. Most high-grade grinder pumps have a 24-hour holding capacity within the tank. You can continue to use the facilities so long as the power outage does not stretch into days. In a worst-case scenario, attach a generator to the grinder pump, providing it has sufficient electric capacity.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.

Installing a battery backup for your sump pump is recommended, particularly if you live in an area with frequent power outages or severe rainstorms. A sump pump requires electricity to function, and a battery backup ensures it can continue to move water out of your home if the power goes out, providing crucial protection against flooding. Additionally, frequent power outages can create electrical surges that might damage the sump pump's motor. A battery backup system offers an additional layer of protection, ensuring your basement stays dry.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.
