Customers say: True professional

"

Was a slight delay because of bad weather but very prompt as soon as the weather permitted. I felt it was a little pricey but they

did quality work for their money. Owners and workers were professional and courteous. Would use them again if needed.

"Above and beyond. Absolutely excellent service. Our property was a mess with overgrown brush and a dead tree. Chris arrived on time, gave an estimate on-site and executed the work to a very high standard. We will hire again."

"John and his crew are a delight. They are very thorough and honest. We’ve had them do a lot of work here. Let’s face it, renovation doesn’t always go to plan! But John sticks with it til we reach a satisfactory outcome. He is very transparent about each step. I really like his work ethic. I highly recommend him"

"The crew were well-skilled in removing trees. They were polite, and it was actually fun having them work at my house. The only negative remark I have is that I wasn't always sure when or if they were coming to work. They did inform me that there was a delay in getting access to a stump grinder they were renting. I would definitely hire C.T. Landscape and Restoration again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The depth of tree roots depends on the species. Trees like oaks and maples can have root systems that grow down 20 feet or more. However, trees that grow in shallow soils will have roots that go only a few feet down. Research how your tree species grows in your climate area to estimate root depth.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Other products, like fertilizer that contains lots of nitrogen, can enhance the process and rot a stump in about a year. (This is compared to the ten years it can take naturally for a stump to rot.)

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

DIY is risky and not recommended for large trees; professional services ensure safe removal and proper disposal.
