Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to remove a hanging tree branch tangled in power lines and while they were there to get the debris pile out of my yard. They had a low bid and they were able to get to me the same day! They told me they also do landscaping. I’ll probably be hiring them again in the future. Oh, and they didn’t just get the debris pile, they raked all the sticks up from the whole yard!"

"They removed a huge oak that was looming near our house, making a surgical cut that preserved the viable part of the tree and protected neighboring trees that would have been destroyed if the oak had fallen. They also removed a smaller tree that was dying. They repaired dents in the yard and raked up all the debris. The team was efficient, courteous, and well-equipped--one of the hardest working crews we have employed."

"Darin and Rex are exceptional young men who both have a work ethic and drive that is phenomenal. The trimming of a birch tree in my front yard was completed in three hours which included a beautiful cleanup. The pricing estimate of the job was very acceptable. What I appreciated the most was that they cared about my property as they completed the task. Highly recommended Green Thumb Tree Care"

"Scheduled work for 1 week after I contacted them. They arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently, cleaned up the area, and completed the work for negotiated amount. My next door neighbor saw them and hired them on the spot to grind out a stump. I will contact them again if I ever need another tree & stump removed.."

"It is hard for me to believe that we are A&E Tree's first Angie's List Review!  What an honor.  These guys did a fantastic job trimming and pruning our overgrown trees.  They have all the equipment you can imagine.  Erik and his crew were amazing, very friendly and polite.  They were very clean and despite all their hard work, they were phenomenal on the cleanup.  This was a major concern for us as we had seen many other tree services contractors in for the quick buck and left a mess.  The pricing was very competitive.  I would recommend A&# tree for all your tree trimming and tree removal / stump removal without hesitation.

"They did a good job and nice and efficient. Just make sure when you get the bid to be thorough in what you are needing. They do ask you to confirm what you want done throughout the procedure. They cleaned up the area very nicely. I would of liked to have been able to voice an opinion while they were still up in the trees so I could have had a few other branches cleaned up. I would definitely recommend, very reasonable in pricing."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

Early signs that a tree is struggling include premature leaf shedding and lesions or other strange markings. Peeling bark, dead or rotten branches on the ground, and a conspicuous lack of leaves can all be signs that a tree has started to die. By the time a tree starts leaning, it’s usually too far gone to save.

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.
