"We needed balancers replaced on two large windows. Brett did a great job explaining what work was needed to repair our windows. Work was completed in a timely and professional manor. It also cost less than I anticipated. I highly recommend Hyperion Glass Company."

"Shannon did a great job on my windows. I needed 6 window screen replacements including a window frame for my daughter's room. The screens were all repaired and the frame was built in a timely manner and at what I believe to be a great price. Shannon was professional and personable and I recommend using him for any of your screening needs. Thanks, Lee"

"Replaced my doublehung windows and sliding glass door. Workers arrived ready to go and stayed until the job was done. The door is easy to use and the added safety of a 3point locking mechanism is a nice feature."

"I used H&F exteriors to install windows in a 130 year-old historic property. The old windows were crusty and inefficient. The new windows are great, and have cut the heating and cooling bills in half. H&F and their team were terrific to work with, honest and responsive."

"I can’t believe how happy I am to have chosen (and WAITED FOR!) Universal Windows Direct! It took 16 weeks from signing the contract, to getting the patio door and window made at the factory, to scheduling the install. Today was installation day. After seeing the quality of the products I felt the wait was totally worth it. The installer—Mr. C. Robertson—was obviously an expert window installer. He explained everything and installed the door AND second floor window by himself. Yes, he was his own crew and not one issue or problem came up. I will recommend Universal Windows Direct to anyone who needs a quality window, door, or other service from this company. And kudos to UWD for hiring incredibly skilled installation experts—Mr. Robertson turned a “normal” install into a truly outstanding experience. Thank you!"

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Screen repair is always worthwhile, as tears and holes in your windows and door screens are unsightly and allow pests and debris into your home, rendering the screen useless. The faster you repair your screens, the faster you can open your windows and doors freely to let the fresh air in. Consider repairing multiple door and window screens during one appointment with a screen repair technician to make the investment and labor costs worth it.

Window seals don’t last forever, so they’ll inevitably fail for one reason or another. One of the most common reasons is the expansion and contraction of the glass. When the glass gets warm from sunlight, it expands and adds pressure to the seal; at night, as the glass cools, it contracts. This process, day in and day out, can eventually cause the seal to fail. Other common sources of failure include the house settling over time, chemicals that damage the seal when repainting windows, and incorrect window installation.

The cost ultimately depends on size, but roughly, the most popular screen materials will set you back anywhere from around $0.25 to over $25 per square foot. Fiberglass and aluminum are usually less expensive at around $0.25 to $0.70 per square foot. Solar screens cost about $7.50 to $15 per square foot, while security screens range from around $10 to $25 per square foot.

Many kinds of window screens, such as solar screens, are designed to reduce the amount of harmful ultraviolet rays that pass through them and enter your home. The materials typically have UV-blocking properties. However, they may not completely eliminate all UV rays from passing through your home. Different window screens are designed for different purposes, and not all are designed to block or reduce UV rays. Do your research to make sure you’re getting the type of window screen to suit your needs.

Yes, you can absolutely put a screen on a casement window, and most casement windows come with screens. Unlike with a double-hung, single-hung, or sliding window, the screen in a casement window sits on the inside of the window so that the sash can freely open outward. Screens are especially important for casement windows because the large window opening the window provides leaves your home more open to bugs and outside debris than most other types of operable windows.
