"They did an amazing job replacing our leaking hot water heater. Of the five estimates we got, they were the only one to actually come out and look at the job site in person. After a very respectful negotiation we came to terms and they got down to work. Don did an amazing job, and was literally out in three hours. For the same price as our other bids, they installed a much superior water heater, and their workmanship was flawless . Could not be happier, would recommend them to everybody."

"I called Starlight Electric and they were to my house in 2 hours. Diagnosed and fixed the issues I was having within 2 hours. The price and customer service were great but most of all they were very clean which was very important to my wife. I will be calling them for another electrical needs I need in the future."

"Very efficient and so polite!! Let me know ahead of time the cost. Got right to work and finished project in a very timely manner. Wasn't scheduled for a couple of days but an opening came up and they were able to get ceiling fan installed before next heat wave. Will use their services again when needed!!!!!!!"

"Excellent! Great price, great service. They installed a bathroom exhaust fan. From the estimate to the clean-up, all went like clockwork. Both Steve and Ryan really know their stuff - no suprises. I am very happy with them and their work. I would highly recommend them and I plan to use them for future electrical work."

Small jobs welcome

"Alfredo installed our new Hunter ceiling fan with light kit perfectly. Other Angi contractors we were offered, were only looking to up sell and charged just to get an estimate. They were more like dealing with a corporation than an Electrician. Silver Claw Electric is professional, courteous, reasonably priced, and delightful to have do the job. We would highly recommend Alfredo, who is building a great reputation for himself. Don't even bother with the others!"

"The entire process went very well! All representatives of Radon Removal Inc. were informative, professional and focused on customer service. Randy provided detailed information during initial phone calls and Chris explained the whole installation process and fan location options during the onsite proposal visit. The installers, Josh and Mike, were prompt, explained the process and got to work quickly finding a suitable location and installing the system. They used drop cloths to protect carpeting and cleaned up very well. It took them a little over 3 hours to complete. Their workmanship on the fan system including the roof venting was excellent. The fan was mounted in the garage attic and cannot be heard from inside the house. The radon level dropped from 5.6 before the system to 2.0 immediately after the install."
When possible, the pipe is run to the garage, and the fan is in the garage attic.
When there is no way to get the pipe through the interior of the building, the fan and pipe will be outside.

"This company has treated me well, especially Mike Museus, who worked over a year (last summer and this spring) to find out why there was a fluid leak in my new AC unit. The leak didn't affect the cooling of my home so I wasn't concerned, but Mike was persistent, even to returning finally with an "expert" to help diagnose the problem. What they found was that the A-coil above the furnace was full of tiny pinholes. On the day this was to be replaced, Steve came before 9 a.m. to remove the defective A-Coil and install the new one. He worked on it all day, without lunch or a break, leaving shortly after 5 p.m. There was no charge, as it was still under warranty. With all that, he still took the time to explain to me why the replacement was so important: that the defective A-Coil could eventually leak enough to damage the furnace below it. Because he was using solder, I believe, to install the new part, he turned on the ceiling fan in the adjacent room to mitigate the fumes. My only complaint is that a few of my vinyl floor tiles were damaged/discolored by the soldering process. That part of the flooring has had water damage before and is missing a few tiles so, after a day of hard work, he may have attributed the damage to work done before. It's not a big deal; I just wish he'd have said something. I have to hand it to Steve, though; he was working by himself, which frequently required him to leave the furnace area to check the outdoor AC unit, then rush back to the indoor work. I think it might have been a two-person job. At least, an assistant could have facilitated some of the work done."

"I had some good photos and ideas before Hal arrived to give the bid. He listened carefully and then added some of his own comments about the size and placement of the planter. He helped us see how a minor change in placement, suggesting appropriate plantings and vines, could improve our idea. The workmanship was excellent -- we are so pleased with the result. The trellis sits further away from our porch than originally planned, but provides a new focal point (we added lighting per Hal's suggestion)."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

To convert a ceiling fan to wireless, you’ll need to install a canopy module to access the lighting and fan controls. Many options are available, all of which help you control specific elements of your ceiling fan, so you have plenty of choices depending on your needs.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.
