"Friendly and helpful electrician. Ran into some issues as the fan I bought was too small, but able to send someone to the store to buy a kit that fit. Also replaced smoke detectors all in one visit."

Small jobs welcome

"Alfredo installed our new Hunter ceiling fan with light kit perfectly. Other Angi contractors we were offered, were only looking to up sell and charged just to get an estimate. They were more like dealing with a corporation than an Electrician. Silver Claw Electric is professional, courteous, reasonably priced, and delightful to have do the job. We would highly recommend Alfredo, who is building a great reputation for himself. Don't even bother with the others!"

"The project was a Bathroom Exhaust Fan in-room, on wall replacement. I started it thinking simple enough but was 3 duct, hard piped, and more so-called in an expert to fix my DIY attempt. Stop searching and just hire him. He gets it right and at a fair price. Very knowledgeable knows building codes, offers options on potential fixes, just a good guy, friendly, and is straight with you. Fixed it all that trip. If ever need another fix similar will call him first!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

Coffered ceilings often come with additional embellishments and accessories, including tin panels, medallions, trim, molding, recessed lights, and finials. Whether you’re looking for a simple grid pattern or want an elaborate, decorative ceiling with all the bells and whistles, there are plenty of options to choose from.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.

Though possible, installing a ceiling fan yourself requires electrical knowledge and confidence working with home wiring. Following the manufacturer's instructions carefully and observing safety precautions are crucial components of a DIY installation.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.
