"Excellent experience with these professionals! We had some pretty heavy storm damage as did most of the city of Blaine so right away I had heard that out of state "storm chasers" were coming door to door flooding the neighborhood so I made sure to call a company that is local to Minnesota and after checking online reviews and a couple local residents we chose Hoffman Weber. From first contact James was a complete professional, always making sure I understood what was going on during the process. James was here during the insurance damage inspection making sure to look out for our families' best interest to return our home to the proper state. Also, any employee that worked on our house was courteous and professional as well. The repairs were all done correctly, the first time (I heard horror stories about some of those "storm chasers" which made our decision that much better that we went with Hoffman Weber). During a follow up I got a chance to meet John Weber, who is really a great guy, and in the end they went above and beyond to take care of our family and our home. Absolutely A+ on all accounts!!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Vlad did a fantastic job adding an additional pantry cabinet to our kitchen. The addition is seamless and fully matches the other cabinets so you can't tell it was an add on. There was a a high level of craftsmanship and also Vlad was very professional to deal with."

"We had Garden Structures & More add onto the beautiful privacy fence they had previously built for us, and we couldn't be happier with the final result. Our new and improved fence is even better than we had envisioned due to owner/designer/craftsman Hal's excellent ideas. All work was completed in a timely and professional manner. We truly enjoyed working with Hal and wouldn't hesitate to have him do our next home project. "

Doors questions, answered by experts

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.

This hack required some hand strength. First, bend the fork's tines. Next, slip the pointed ends into the door latch and close the door. Open the door to remove the fork and break off the fork's handle. Reinsert the fork's head into the door latch and close the door. Finally, slide the fork's handle through the tines, creating a horizontal barrier that prevents the door from opening inward.

You have several options when choosing the best lumber for your door jamb. Pine is the most common material due to its resistance to swelling. Fir is strong and durable. You could also go with birch or alder. Any wood with a tight grain will work for this project.

Wood is more susceptible to damage than metal, and a wood door can benefit from upgraded locks, screws, and strike plates. Additional features like security doors, latch keys, and deadbolts are also a plus. Installing a comprehensive security system will also boost your home’s protection and make you feel safer.

A screen door needs at least two hinges, though most have three or four hinges. The amount of hinges depends on the weight and size of the door. The heavier your door, the more hinges it will need for support. Exterior doors, which are sturdier than interior doors, have the most hinges.
