Hello my name is Eric Coughlin and I am the owner and operator of EC Construction LLC based out of the twin cities. I am a licensed general contractor and certified EPA (lead paint removal specialist). I am fully insured with general liability and work comp insurance. Ive been in the trades for over 15 years. I am a perfectionist and I love what i do. I have sub contractors lined up for any phase of a project. On almost all jobs you get the owner me installing your fixtures and doing the demo. I require 1/3 down, and the remaining 2/3 paid after final walk through and customer satisfaction. I will work on an hourly basis, but bidding out jobs is easier on the customer. My free bids are detailed out so you know all phases of the job.

"We hired Eric to remodel our 90+ kitchen. He gutted it almost completely, rebuilt the floor, back stairs, and parts of the walls, put in new arches to match the original nook arches, added a "mud nook," installed cabinets, tiled, painted, added crown molding, and built base board that echoed the original int he front of the house, and served as gen contractors for all the subs. He also finished the ceiling in the basement and painted all. The final product is beautiful. It wasn't an easy job either. Our old house provided plenty of challenges, but Eric was a good communicator, explaining the problems and working together to figure out how best to address them. He did a beautiful job on the arches, and dealing with a challenging, wonky ceiling that needed extensive work to level out, and the nook with great looking wood work and careful attention to detail. The overall project took longer than planned do to some unforeseen challenges with the house, and changes we wanted to make along the way, but he was always responsive and helpful. As general contractor there were a few issues, particularly with the stove, that weren't clearly understood or defined, but his subs helped worked through them and all turned out well. I think that's the theme of Eric's work - he was there to make sure the problems were addressed directly and the work done completely and well. I appreciate his persistence, his guidance, and his ideas on improving on our vision. We now have a well organized, beautiful kitchen that's getting a ton of use!"

I am a small owner operated business. I do most of the work myself, but have quality subcontractors that I also use. Please see my website for more about me.

"Mark of Arend Remodeling gave us great service. He is honest, and we found his estimates very accurate for the actual costs. His estimation of how long the project would take to complete was very accurate and he is highly reliable. He is clearly dedicated to quality and doing things with excellence and care. He works with good subcontractors, and made sure their work for us met our expectations. We recommend him highly and without any reservation. We would certainly hire him again (hope to have him return next year for a bathroom remodel!)"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The doorbell installation cost depends on which and how many parts you need to replace. A new transformer is the least expensive replacement and falls between $20 and $35, plus the cost of hiring an electrician to install it, which can be between $150 and $250. Replacing your entire doorbell system can cost $250 to $400.

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

There are several indicators that a single-pole switch is bad: the switch is warm or hot to the touch, sparks are sometimes present when turning the switch on or off, you hear a buzzing sound or other weird noise coming from the switch, the connected light flickers when you turn on the switch, and the light doesn't turn on at all with the switch. If you notice any of these, replace the switch or call a pro straight away.

You should never plug a normal 120v appliance into a special 240v outlet, as it can quickly burn out the appliance. This will cause irreparable damage to the appliance and, in worse case scenarios, cause damage to your circuit breaker. Check your appliance’s rating before plugging it into a 220v outlet to avoid electrical disaster.

If all of the outlets in one room suddenly stop working, it’s likely the result of a tripped circuit breaker. This easy-to-resolve malfunction is caused by overloading the circuit with too many working appliances at the same time. Locate the tripped breaker in your electrical panel and reset it to restore power.
