"Remodel was supposed to take 2 weeks. It has been 2 months and is still not done. 24 of those days no one showed up. Several (at least 9) days they worked 2 hours or less. When they said the work was "complete" I was left with a "shell" for a closet (no bar to hang clothes or even a shelf) and a piece of trim that I guess I am supposed to install. (I cannot-I am elderly and disabled, that is why the work was hired out) In the new bathroom, I had no towel holders, toilet paper holder, mirror or shelves. In the basement where they removed the washer and dryer, I was left with a huge open hole in the wall that was not covered. Dryer vent was left open to the outside of house making it a great place for heat to escape and mice to come in. SEVERAL walls were left half painted. Including the hallway, the bedroom and downstairs bathroom where they went into the ceiling to hook up plumbing. When installing the shower, they nailed through the wall and put holes all the way through into the kitchen. Those were mudded but not painted so I now have a brown wall with a row of white mud spots. I am STILL waiting to hear from them about finishing the closet and painting. When they were actively working, I frequently received emails with excuses as to why they could not be here or why the work wasnt being done (truck problems, vacation, no painter available, etc) I am a disabled senior citizen-I cannot do this work by myself and would not recommend them to anyone who needs a reliable honest company."

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

The average price of a bathroom remodel is around $11,500, and prices usually fall between $6,500 and $29,000. Some factors that affect your project cost include the type and size of the bathroom, the extent of the renovation, the quality of the materials, whether or not you’re moving or adding fixtures, and the cost of renovation permits in your area. Small half-baths usually cost between $1,500 and $15,000 to remodel, while larger, primary bathrooms can total between $7,000 and $30,000.

Use waterproof or moisture-resistant paint in rooms with excessive humidity. You should also ensure these rooms are properly ventilated by regularly opening windows and turning on fans, especially after someone showers or takes a bath.

Professionals ensure compliance with building codes, optimize design functionality, and manage the project efficiently, minimizing stress and error risks.

In some cases, people are getting rid of bathtubs because of the floor space they gain after removal. Showers can make more efficient use of bathroom space. In some cases, people get rid of tubs for accessibility purposes. It can be difficult for some individuals to step into and out of a tub. For these people, a shower with no lip or step is safer and easier to use than a tub.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.
