We're a small group of creative individuals that specialize in designing and building 'Specialty Gardens'. Our work includes old world, dry stone wall building techniques; ecological, permeable cobble patios and natural stone walks; colorful outdoor seasonal arrangements in pots and borders; and professional garden management services.

"I had a deeply disappointing experience with the owner of this company. She reached out to me during a time of crisis—after her ceilings had collapsed—seeking help with what she described as an unlivable situation. I spent multiple hours on the phone and visited her home twice, free of charge, to advise her on insurance claims, project planning, and restoration strategy. She verbally committed to moving forward with our PreConstruction agreement, which is a standard part of our process and requires a small deposit. Based on that commitment, I invested even more time—reviewing insurance documents, rewriting estimates, and offering to manage part of the project at cost, simply to assist her during a difficult time. Unfortunately, she missed the deadline to sign our agreement, and I respectfully declined to move forward. She initially responded with appreciation, acknowledging we weren’t a good fit—but later posted a public review filled with false and damaging claims, including that we had been sued (we have not), and that we use unprofessional subcontractors (we work with highly-rated, trusted partners and a skilled in-house team). I’m disappointed that someone I tried to help would misrepresent our interaction so deeply. I would caution others—contractors or clients—about trusting verbal commitments or expecting consistent communication. I’m sharing this not out of retaliation, but as a warning. In my professional opinion, based on direct experience, I would not recommend engaging with the owner of this business."

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

Some homes, like those with flat roofs, may not have eaves at all. Some contemporary-style homes also lack eaves, although many may have abbreviated eaves to divert water and protect the walls and foundation. Homes without eaves often have specific types of gutters affixed directly to the edge of the roof to provide adequate drainage.

As with most large-scale home renovation projects, you’ll need an architect to map out the exact layout and specs of your above-garage room, which is required in many municipalities. Some general contractors will serve as your architect, or they may bring on a residential architect to assist with the plans.
