"Jeff was excellent to work with, provided excellent advice and did an excellent job replacing our countertop and installing a new back splash. As the former manager of the Consumer Services Division for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office I have had the opportunity to deal with many contractors I only wish they were all like Jeff."

Customers say: Quick response

"Chad, Rick and the team worked tirelessly to deliver the highest quality of customer service. From the beginning of the remodel to the end they listened to our needs and helped us make good decisions as we remodeled our lake home kitchen. They planned a kitchen with a center island, coffee bar and cabinets we would have never expected to have space for. It all turned out wonderful. They also helped us narrow down the many choices for countertop and backsplash paying attention to our budget. Chad, Rick and team are great communicators and work well together. We are so thankful to have had them do our remodel. They are a truly outstanding team who care about the customer as well as their work."

Small jobs welcome

"Excellent person to work with. Had good discussion on the various countertop options available with pluses and minuses and samples. Install is well done. Very professional and great attention to detail. Easy to work with and flexible. Price was very reasonable given the high quality install. He replaced kitchen and bathroom countertops."

"Fabulous to work with and we love the end result!  Everyone we worked with was professional, prompt, personable, and very easy to work with.  Originally met Steve and Dani at the Home Improvement Show and then worked with Teresa, Scott, Alicia and Brian.  There were many others (plumber, heating, electric, drywall/ceiling, flooring and I'm sure I'm missing some in there) involved and again, all of them were great to work with and did excellent work.  There was no pressure to do anything we didn't want to do and Inspiration offered up suggestions along the way.  Brian was always there when he said he would be there, did fabulous work, kept us informed, and always left the place clean when he was done - thank you!  We were impressed with Inspiration from the start and our entire experience with them was great.  You may pay a little more to have the convenience of everything handled by one contractor and to have a designer work with you and the ability to pick out everything needed for the project in one place, but in our opinion it is WELL worth the investment and peace of mind that we got.  We spoke to other contractors who didn't have all of those items and frankly, didn't seem interested in us as the customer (like Inspiration did) - and we didn't want to end up with a horror story project gone wrong or delayed like you hear about.  We would gladly recommend Inspiration Design Center to others.  We have received many compliments on the "new" house and have told everyone who we used and that if they are thinking of remodeling, they should give them a call!

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, updating your countertops can increase your home's resale value. High-quality, stylish countertops play a significant role in a property's overall appeal and can attract potential buyers. The impact is greatest when replacing outdated, chipped, or stained countertops, or when upgrading from a low-end material like laminate to a high-end, durable one such as granite, quartz, or other natural stone. While you may not recoup the entire cost, investing in attractive, durable countertops is a smart move, as kitchen and bathroom updates often have the most significant impact on a buyer's opinion. For the best results, ensure they are professionally installed.

Concrete countertops should be sealed every one to three years, depending on the type of sealer used and the level of use your countertops get. For instance, hardworking kitchens will need yearly sealing. Sealing is important because it protects the surface from stains, moisture, and daily wear. Monitoring the countertop for signs of wear can help determine the ideal sealing schedule for your countertop.

Countertop resurfacing or refinishing can extend the life of your countertops for an additional 5 to 10 years. The longevity depends on the quality of the materials, the amount of wear and tear, and how well the countertops are maintained. To maximize their lifespan, avoid heat damage by using hot pads or trivets, use cutting boards to prevent scratches, clean with non-abrasive cleaners, and wipe up spills promptly.

Marble countertops don’t necessarily crack easily. However, they are more susceptible to damage than some other types of countertops. For example, they can develop etching from acidic liquids, such as lemon or tomato juice. Marble can also chip at the edges if you drop a heavy pan. A faux marble countertop isn’t as delicate as the real deal (depending on the material you’re painting over), but it can still get scratched if you’re not careful. Use hot pads and cutting boards to protect the countertop.

Gray is always a safe bet when painting concrete countertops, since concrete is a variation of gray. You may also choose black or white, but those are much starker colors that only do well in certain kitchens.
