"Jeff was excellent to work with, provided excellent advice and did an excellent job replacing our countertop and installing a new back splash. As the former manager of the Consumer Services Division for the Minnesota Attorney General's Office I have had the opportunity to deal with many contractors I only wish they were all like Jeff."

Customers say: Quick response

"Chad, Rick and the team worked tirelessly to deliver the highest quality of customer service. From the beginning of the remodel to the end they listened to our needs and helped us make good decisions as we remodeled our lake home kitchen. They planned a kitchen with a center island, coffee bar and cabinets we would have never expected to have space for. It all turned out wonderful. They also helped us narrow down the many choices for countertop and backsplash paying attention to our budget. Chad, Rick and team are great communicators and work well together. We are so thankful to have had them do our remodel. They are a truly outstanding team who care about the customer as well as their work."

We selected Inspiration Design for a kitchen remodel project that included a new quartz countertop, sink, faucet and glass mosaic backsplash. The final product looks fantastic. There were several things that occurred during the installation that were concerning, and that is why we rated them as a “B”.

We really enjoyed working with the designer and appreciated Nancy's insight and advice on the product selections. We also liked that Nancy was not pushy in advocating for particular products or designs – she wanted to be sure the design was what we wanted.

During installation, the countertop installers found out that the peninsula slab was not cut correctly. (This after a technician had spent 2 ½ hrs measuring the kitchen using a computer laser.) Luckily, the error could be resolved by cutting the new slab. They were able to get the new slab cut very quickly, and this only delayed the project by 2 days. The countertop installers did a great job. The slab needed to be seamed in two places, and these are barely noticeable.

For the plumbing hookup, we had a slow leak in the sink plumbing that was causing a calcified deposit on an intake pipe. We had asked Inspiration to fix this during the install. We had to call the plumber back once because the pipe was still leaking.

The backsplash tile looks great, but the tile install team did not do a good job cleaning up after themselves. I spent at least two hours cleaning cabinets and flooring after they left. They also left silicone smudges on our brand new quartz countertop. I found some mosaic glass in the grass in our front yard.

Inspiration had dedicated individuals for scheduling the teams, but there was a little hiccup in scheduling. The scheduler gave me a 12 to 2 window for the second countertop installation, but the team arrived at 8 am.

We are very pleased with our new kitchen – it looks fantastic and seems like it will hold up for many years. We expect that installation glitches can occur, but felt that Inspiration Design could have prevented some of the glitches.

"There were some problems not related to quality of work. I told him what days i was not available. they chose one of those days and nobody informed me when they were coming. I had to call them to find out. they brought the wrong countertops. I told them but I agreed to keep them because i had chosen them first and then had changed them. I agreed to keep them but they owed me a small refund which took a while to com my way."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to cover old countertops with new ones. Using a countertop overlay to cover your existing countertop is a good way to get a totally new surface without removing your old countertops. This method can be more cost-effective and less time-consuming than a total replacement.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Yes, it is often possible to replace an undermount sink without removing the countertop, but success can depend on the countertop material. For materials like granite, the process is relatively straightforward. However, laminate or uniquely shaped countertops might need to be removed or modified.

The process typically involves shutting off the water supply, disconnecting the drain and plumbing pipes, cutting through the old silicone seal, and carefully lowering the sink from below. This requires a good understanding of plumbing and the right tools. If you are not confident in performing the replacement yourself, it is recommended to hire a countertop specialist or a plumber to handle the task.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

Yes, many services include the removal and disposal of old countertops. Confirm with your installer.
