"The deal on Angie's list stated that wires would be "dressed." To me this means that the wires would be covered. There were wires sticking out all over and was extremely unsightly. I had to pay an additional fee to "dress the wires." When that was completed, it looked much much better. Unfortunately, the pictures below show how it looks now. Some wires are still exposed and the paint was chipped."

"Bob went above and beyond the service I originally hired him to do. I had another problem with my computer which I created but he came to my rescue and he did not even charge me for the additional service"

"There were many things wrong in my computer (my fault and letting grandchildren on computer) Robert was so helpful, gave me many good instructions to keep everything safe, which I have written down, feel like I have a new computer. He was so excellent and experienced, took his time and was meticulous about what needed to be done. He was a pleasure to work with and I will use this company again! Linda Disy"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Homes in Grand Rapids built before the 1960s may need full rewiring, while those from later decades often require panel upgrades or GFCI outlets. If your property has aluminum wiring, limited outdoor lighting for winter safety, or not enough outlets for modern appliances, it’s a strong candidate for electrical upgrades to meet local safety standards and improve functionality.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, you’ll find full-service electrical contractors handling residential, commercial, and industrial projects, as well as specialists in home renovations, generator installation for rural outages, and solar or smart home upgrades. Some contractors focus on emergency repairs after storms, while others cater to seasonal needs for lake homes and remote properties, especially during the busy winter months.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, start with a licensed electrician inspecting your electrical panel to confirm it meets winter heating needs and local code. Upgrade to GFCI outlets in basements and kitchens, install whole-house surge protection for storm safety, and weatherproof all exterior outlets. Check for proper grounding and consider adding AFCI protection, especially if your home is older or has undergone past renovations.

Helpful?

Watch for missing permit details, lack of insurance, or no written estimates—these are major red flags in Grand Rapids. Be cautious of extremely low bids, cash-only requests, or contractors who rush your decision. If a professional can’t explain local code requirements, pushes unnecessary upgrades, or lacks community references, consider it a warning sign. Reliable electricians provide clear estimates, warranties, and strong local reputations.

Helpful?

In Grand Rapids, persistent flickering lights, frequent breaker trips when using space heaters, or outlets that feel warm are clear signs you need an electrician. If the issue is limited to heating or cooling, an HVAC specialist may be needed. Electrical issues near water sources could indicate plumbing leaks, while problems after heavy snow may require checking for roof or insulation damage first.
