"We had an amazing experience with Castle Gate. They built our home just about two years ago. They were super helpful throughout the whole process and great with keeping us in the loop on the whole project. Dan and Ari were so helpful, that we had them do our deck about a year later! Would highly recommend working with Castle Gate if you are looking to build a new home or even to do a remodel job!"

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"Sky has done work for me on three separate occasions and I will hire him over and over again. The quality of his work is excellent, he's prompt, friendly, and his estimates are very reasonable. My house is over 100 years old and working on it is never easy and I've had work done that just wasn't done very well or with respect to the house. Skies work is excellent quality and he always respects the original workmanship. The range of his work is also amazing. He has fixed the stairs in my home that were becoming very creaky and a few were getting loose and they are very solid now and the original workmanship continues. He's put up a cast iron gazebo in my yard, installed a dishwasher and a toilet in terms of plumbing. And helped on a couple of my electrical outlets. I really feel that this review is not saying enough about Sky's work but I encourage folks looking for war a handyman to hire Sky."

"We contracted with Fair and Square back in April to complete a living room addition to our existing home and are happy we did. We loved working with our project manager Sam. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, foresaw things we didn’t and guided us through the entire project. She was always there to answer our questions and address our concerns and made us feel like we were in good hands. We envisioned a beautiful fireplace as the centerpiece for the room and the work Fair and Square did on the stone surround and Columbia wood flooring turned out even better than we hoped. It makes quite a statement! Thanks Sam and Fair and Square, we're loving our new living room."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

On average, the cost of a home builder is about $150 per square foot, but that price can range from around $100 to $400 per square foot or more. That puts the typical price range of a standard, 2,000-square-foot house between $200,000 and $800,000. Some factors that affect the price of hiring a home builder include the following:

  • Location of your home and the living cost in the area

  • Type of foundation and framing you choose

  • Quality of the building materials

  • Footprint and layout of the house

  • Number of stories

  • Builder’s experience

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.

In most states, you can build an in-law suite on your property as long as you follow local building codes. However, it's important that you have enough space on your property to accommodate the new structure. A functional in-law suite in your backyard will require between 300 and 800 square feet of space.

If you want to make your home eco-friendly, enjoy low maintenance, and love the fact that its looks will take people’s breath away (and not because they were trying to blow your house down), then a modern brick home is right for you. You can hire a mason to get the building process started for your brick home.

But if you’re not fond of the color and don’t want to deal with the process of repointing or other repairs, consider going with vinyl or wood. These materials offer a lower cost. While they tend to require more maintenance, they don’t cost nearly the same as exterior brick house repair.
