"Alex, the owner has the most amazing work ethic. It was quite a large project to replace all the flooring on my main level. Alex is polite and does excellent work. He quoted us two days to complete the project and he was right on time. He cleaned up everything and left the house spotless. Thank you Alex!"

"We had two chairs that were custom built circa 1940 by my wife's grandfather. We wanted to keep the chairs, but upgrade them a bit for a retro/modern feel. The original style was vinyl upholstery with a border of tacks all around the edges. With the help of Gina, we selected a micro fiber fabric that would tolerate our cats and compliment the existing furniture in our living room. The chairs were completed and exceeded our expectations for quality of workmanship and the look we were going for. I would highly recommend Twin Cities Upholstery for friendly service a top notch job."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Some states require carpenters to be licensed to perform forms of carpentry, such as framing. The license requires a certain amount of experience and to pass an examination. In states that don’t require carpenters to be licensed, they must be licensed as a contractor if they work independently rather than solely as a subcontractor under a licensed builder. Use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to find out whether a potential carpenter is licensed in your state.

Yes, many repair services include blade sharpening as part of the maintenance package.

If you don’t have a power saw with a blade where you can adjust the angle, you could use a miter box and hand saw to make the cuts. The miter box contains wide slots to support the piece of baseboard and other narrow slots to accommodate the blade of the hand saw. However, it’s tough to make non-standard cuts beyond 30 or 45 degrees when using a miter box.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Hiring a woodworker can be expensive, depending on the job, but it’s very often well worth the investment. Woodworkers are able to provide custom pieces of furniture and handmade construction to present a finished product that is exactly to your specifications. If you have a specific vision for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or home feature, the cost of hiring a professional woodworker is worthwhile. Plus, you’ll often get a higher quality product than what you could buy in stores for a fraction of the price.
