"Nick did a great job getting us through our first bathroom remodel. Our space had a lot of issues and surprises and Nick helped to come up with solutions while keeping us in our budget. The new bathroom looks great and we are very happy with the quality of Nick’s work."

"It was perfect. I hired Roger because I trusted him. His company did work for me in 2013 and I was very pleased then. I am even more pleased now! I thought I needed to replace the siding all the way around my house (it's 40 years old). A neighbor painted his and, while it looked okay, the painting was so expensive that I thought I'd see if there was an in-between solution. Roger said he could replace just the south side (first and second floor) and match the existing front and back. I got home tonight and the work is PERFECT. The south side (attached garage on lower level, my office and a bedroom on upper level) have new siding that perfectly matches the 40-year-old stuff AND everything looks new. They did a wonderful job sealing up everything tightly and I couldn't be more pleased. Roger visited this house twice to look at the work as the job specs changed (I kept asking questions and I had some brick work done in between). He was on time, charged a fair price, and confirmed last week that he would be here today. I didn't call or expect a call yesterday, and I had an early appointment at a client's place this morning. Roger called me first thing to say his crew was at my house and he was heading over to check on things. We talked about the job and he informed me that my office window had some messy caulk - he cleaned it up and made sure it was sealed tight for winter. I would hire this company to do any sort of remodeling work and I'm thrilled."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

It is a good idea to check in with your local city and state regulations before committing to building a shipping container home no matter where you live. This concept is pretty new across the country, and many places won’t let you build one.

The International Code Council (ICC) offers guidelines for home builders on the safe use of ISO intermodal shipping containers repurposed as building components, which can be helpful to review when planning or designing a shipping container home.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

Modular homes are more affordable than stick-built homes if you keep quality and square footage equal. The cost to build a home averages $323,000, while average modular home prices sit at {AvgCost}. If you’re looking for custom or luxury options, a traditional custom home costs $825,000, while a high-end modular home costs $600,000, on average.

Whether a prefab home is worth it or not will depend on your personal needs and preferences. Overall, prefab homes tend to cost less than traditional homes, although they also tend to have lower resale values. Another thing to consider is that prefab homes usually last 50 to 60 years or longer, while traditional homes last 50 to 100 years or more.

How long it takes to build a custom home or rebuild a home after a disaster varies depending on many factors, but averages between seven and 14 months. Smaller homes or homes that don’t need a re-poured foundation may take less time to build than larger homes or homes without an existing foundation. Material availability, contractor schedules, and permit and inspection timelines can all affect how long your house takes to build.
